He’s cool, calm and collected and with three assists in Bayer Leverkusen’s awesome away win at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 9, Kai ‘The Kid’ Havertz showed he is continuing to enjoy toying with opposition defences.

Saturday’s visitors to BORUSSIA-PARK were trailing to Dieter Hecking’s charges at half-time, before Havertz took control of a tricky situation for his team. Displaying a deadly eye for detail and incredible composure, the 18-year-old set up Sven Bender, Leon Bailey and Julian Brandt in quick succession to completely turn the tide for the visiting side.

Leverkusen eventually ran out 5-1 winners, with Havertz unsurprisingly a focal point for much of the post-match celebrations. The Aachen native was chosen to start for the third time this season as he continues to call attention to his tremendous talents. A scorer of four goals and provider of six assists in 24 German top-flight appearances while still at school last term, Havertz is setting a high standard once again in 2017/18.

His prowess on the international stage for Germany’s U19s in recent European qualifiers on display, Havertz – who signed professional terms with Die Wekself in the summer – already seems destined to become one of the game’s greats. “He has huge potential, which will come to the fore even more in the coming years," B04’s sporting director Rudi Völler recently said of Havertz, this week’s Man of the Matchday.
