Chilean international midfielder Arturo Vidal has bossed the Bayern Munich midfield this season and despite the arrival of Leon Goretzka to come in the summer, he has his confirmed his desire to stay with the club.

“I don’t think about a move,” Vidal told reports after Bayern Munich’s win over Schalke on Saturday. “I feel incredibly well here. Sure, I would like to extend. My kids are also very happy here."

Vidal and Goretzka went toe-to-toe on Saturday at the Allianz Arena, in a showcase of what Bayern’s midfield may look like from next season onwards. Vidal made more passes and won more challenges that his Royal Blue opposite, who in turn ran further, made more sprints and had more shots on goal than the Chilean.

“There’s a good reason I play in this team,” Vidal added.  “I’m certainly one of the best in my position in the world for good reason.”

Reports suggested that with the arrival of Schalke’s Goretzka, the 30-year-old may need to go elsewhere to continue at the highest level. Not only has he outlined his desire to rubbish those claims and fight for his place, but Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes has done the same.

“He doesn’t need to worry about his place,” Heynckes said. “He is a class player who we need in the big games.”

Despite his age, Vidal is enjoying one of his very best seasons as a professional. His current tally of six goals represents his best haul since his move to Munich, while four more strikes would equal his single-season best with Bayer Leverkusen in 2010/11.

There would be no surprise if Vidal would celebrate his 31st birthday in May by reaching double-figures, and the Chilean says himself that people should not be surprised in his impressive performances.
