Dortmund – Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündogan has put pen to paper on a contract extension until 30 June 2017, the club announced on Wednesday.

“The first days of pre-season are over and it’s been a lot of fun working with the coaches and my team-mates,” said the 11-time German international. “I’m delighted that we’ve finally been able to clear up the situation and that I can continue playing football for Borussia Dortmund. As of right now I’m turning my focus onto pre-season preparations, and in August we ultimately want to go on the attack once again.”

At Dortmund since 2011

“We’re delighted that Ilkay Gündogan will continue representing Borussia Dortmund,” said sporting director Michael Zorc. “I’m convinced that he will play his part in BVB achieving their sporting targets.” Gündogan joined Dortmund from 1. FC Nürnberg back in 2011 and has since gone on to establish himself as a key member of the starting line-up, making 80 Bundesliga appearances, scoring nine goals and setting up a further 10.
