Mainz – 1. FSV Mainz 05 have extended the contract of South Korean international defender Joo-Ho Park.

Pillar of the team

The 28-year-old full-back has signed a new two-year contract, committing himself to the Bundesliga club until 2017.

With Mainz's top-flight future now all but mathematically secure, work has commenced on structuring the squad for next season, and Park clearly features highly in head coach Martin Schmidt's plans. Despite missing games following the winter break after appearing for his country at the AFC Asian Cup, Park has made 15 appearances for the Hessian side this term.

The former FC Basel 1893 defender has become a firm fans' favourite at the Coface Arena, wowing spectators both for his strength – and success – in the tackle, as well as for his propensity to push on down the left wing. Since arriving at the club in 2013, he has been a pillar of the Mainz team, earning a new contract which will take him through to four years with the Zerofivers.
