Cologne – In his short time at the helm, FC Schalke 04 coach Roberto Di Matteo slowly appears to be getting his ideas across with the Royal Blues climbing back into contention under the Italian's stewardship to finish the 2014/15 Hinrunde in fifth place while setting up an appetising UEFA Champions League last-16 tie with holders Real Madrid CF.

bundesliga.com has assessed the performance of all 18 clubs in various areas of play over the course of the Hinrunde and ranked them in positions 1-18 accordingly. The greater the surface area on the spidergram below, the better that club has statistically performed overall in 2014/15.

Inconsistencies earlier in the season led to Schalke hovering around mid-table and saw Jens Keller lose his job. Di Matteo has worked hard, notably on his team's defence, but what else has he tinkered with and what still needs a good looking over? Tell us your thoughts by interacting with Bundesliga on Twitter.
