Wolfsburg - Bas Dost seemed a very happy man indeed after finding the net in VfL Wolfsburg's 2-1 success at home to 1. FC Köln, while the visitors were left rueing what might have been after the Matchday 17 clash.

VfL Wolfsburg

rounds up what the game's key figures had to say after their sides' last competitive game of 2014...

Bas Dost

: "We had to be very patient today. We were disappointed after conceding the goal and perhaps we were a bit tired, but we managed to come back and thankfully Naldo was able to get the winner. We have a lot of tall guys in the team and Kevin [De Bruyne] has a good delivery. Naldo is a great goalscorer and he finished it well. At the start of the second, nobody would have said we'd be where we are, so we couldn't have asked for more."

Diego Benaglio:

"It's great right now. Our aim was to still be involved in all three competitions. We're still in both cups and we're going well in the Bundesliga on 34 points. We're only halfway through, though, and there's still a long road ahead in the

Rückrunde

. Right now we're happy, but we know we still have a lot of work to do."

1. FC Köln

Timo Horn

: "With a bit of luck we’d have taken a point. We gave it everything and you can't criticise the team at all, but Wolfsburg have a lot of quality especially in the air. We defended well but made two mistakes which proved costly."

Dominic Maroh

: "I'm finding it difficult to explain the reasons for our defeat. Obviously you can't keep a side that has five or six top attacking players like Wolfsburg at bay throughout the full 90 minutes. We played well today but we were still beaten twice."

"Unfortunately we got no reward. Thanks again to all the fans that came to support us!"
