New Jersey - FC Bayern München got their Audi Summer Tour of the States off to a winning start on Thursday night.

Heading in the right direction

The record German champions were given an emphatic reception upon touchdown in the Big Apple and in front of a sell-out crowd of 25,023 spectators in Harrison, New Jersey, they didn't disappoint, seeing off Mexico's C.D. Guadalajara 1-0 thanks to the indomitable goal-scoring prowess of the Bundesliga's all-time leading foreign goalscorer

Claudio Pizarro

.

"I'm very pleased with our performance and I'm proud of the team," said Pep Guardiola, whose side appear to be in fearsome form having already

clinched the Telekom Cup

with wins over Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg. "You could see a few tired legs out there to start with, but we still gave a good impression of ourselves and so may it continue."

Pizarro nodded in

Franck Ribery

's corner in the tenth minute of the pre-season friendly, which saw

Xherdan Shaqiri

make his first post-2014 FIFA World Cup appearance.

Dante

,

Arjen Robben

and Bayern's contingent of German World Cup winners are yet to link up with the Bavarians, although Tom Starke made some inspired saves in the absence of first-choice custodian

Manuel Neuer

.

Foreign office

Earlier, Bayern officially opened their new office in New York, on the 21st floor of a building in Lexington Avenue, just a stone's throw away from the Empire State Building, Broadway and Central Park. "New York City is a special place, and we are a special club," said Bayern director Jörg Wacker. "We live in a globalised world in which there is fierce competition, and we felt it was a must to locate ourselves here. This is a special day for us."

Bayern will continue their pre-season preparations and self-promotion in the USA until August 7, when they will face a

Major League Soccer All-Star XI

in Portland, before returning to Germany, certain to have won over many more fans stateside. There will also be time for a bit of tourism too with Guardiola's charges due to pay the Statue of Liberty a visit on Friday before leaving the Big Apple for Portland on Saturday. Stick with
