Hamburg - The relief was palpable in the Imtech Arena after Hakan Calhanoglu's stunning long-range free-kick rippled the back of the net to seal a 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, ending a seven-game losing streak.

For Calhanoglu, there was nothing so spectacular about a goal he practises every day in training, but goalkeeper Rene Adler admitted it was an odd feeling to have a smile on his face again.

Hakan Calhanoglu: I practice [free-kicks] every single day. If you don't, then you lose or forget your shooting technique. That's why I knew I could do it. I just thought to myself 'focus and hit it like in training.' It was the best goal of my career.

Rene Adler: It's an unusual feeling to be able to smile again, but it's a nice feeling. We had a very intense and emotional week in training and when you see what happened here today and what the team have been through, then it's indescribably beautiful to have rewarded ourselves now, at the end of this week.

Heiko Westermann: This was a united team performane and hopefully it was a wake-up call to everybody. In the end, I think we totally deserved this win. Of course we can be happy, but we've also got to keep our concentration to get out of danger. We've got to take things game by game. We played well today, but that gets us nothing next Saturday. I also want to pay tribute to the fans, who have always been behind us and believed in us from the very first minute today too.

Borussia Dortmund

Nuri Sahin: I think Hamburg deserved to win, we have to recognise that. We played badly, catastrophically so today and we didn't deserve to take anything from the game.

Manuel Friedrich: For them, it was a matter of life or death. You can't just come here and expect to win without trying and you could see that today.
