Sinsheim - 1899 Hoffenheim have strengthened their squad by sealing the transfer of Jiloan Hamad from newly-crowned Swedish champions Malmö.

Player of the Year in Sweden

The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a contract until the summer of 2017 and will arrive at the Sinsheim club at in January 2014.

The Malmö captain, voted the Swedish Eliteklasse’s player of the year by both journalists and fans last week, scored eight goals and set up a further six as his side clinched their 17th domestic league title. He has made a total of 125 appearances in the Swedish league, scoring 22 times, while he has also gained UEFA Europa League experience, featuring in six qualifying matches in the summer, scoring twice.

“Jiloan Hamad is a young, ambitious player who can still develop, and he has already underlined his ability in Sweden,” said Hoffenheim’s sporting director Alexander Rosen. “He can play in a variety of positions across the midfield and we’re delighted that he’s decided to join us.” Since making 28 appearances for Sweden’s Under-21s, he has more recently been capped six times by his country’s senior selection.
