Riva del Garda - FC Bayern Munich have announced that midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is to return to the Bavarian captial ahead of schedule from the club's training camp in Italy.

Precautionary measure

Alongside team doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt and physiotherapist Gerry Hofmann, the 28-year-old will depart at midday on Sunday.

However, there is no cause for concern and the move is designed to aid the German international's recovery from ankle surgery due to the wider range of medical services available to the team in Munich. Schweinsteiger will continue his individual programme in order to return to full training once the rest of the side returns home.

Meanwhile, Arjen Robben joined up with his team-mates in Italy having been granted an extended break due to his commitments with the Dutch national team, while Jerome Boateng was back in the thick of things on Saturday having taken an enforced break after falling ill with a stomach bug.
