Stuttgart - VfB Stuttgart have completed their third summer signing ahead of the 2013/14 Bundesliga campaign in the form of defender Daniel Schwaab. The 24-year-old will join on a free transfer from Bayer 04 Leverkusen after putting pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement that will keep him at the club until 2016.

“Hungry for success”

“In Daniel we’re signing a player who can be deployed in several different positions along the backline. He brings both Bundesliga and international experience with him and has a very good character,” said VfB’s sporting director Fredi Bobic. “We’re confident that he’ll be able to further his development with us.”

Schwaab himself still has targets to reach with Leverkusen before moving south, but is still looking forward to what next season has in store for him. “Right now I’m concentrating on closing out the current campaign with Leverkusen,“ explained the former Germany U-21 international. “Starting next season though, I’m really looking forward to my new role.”

VfB have an “outstanding stadium and fantastic fans, as well as a squad hungry for success,” said Schwaab, who has only made 14 appearances for the Werkself this season. “This combination brings with it a lot of potential. I wanted to bring my qualities here in order to ensure that Stuttgart has a very good season next year.”
