Freiburg - SC Freiburg have parted company with sporting director Dirk Dufner with immediate effect and by mutual consent.
Dufner requested his contract be terminated to allow him to take his career “in a new direction” after six years with the Baden-Württemberg club.
“Dirk Dufner took over his role in what was not an easy time for the club and he has done a fantastic job,” said club president Fritz Keller. “In his almost six-year reign, we were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2009 and this coming season will be SC Freiburg’s fifth consecutive in the top flight - longer than ever before. The club expresses its heartfelt thanks to Dirk Dufner for the work he has done.”
Klemens Hartenbach, head of Freiburg’s scouting division, and Jochen Saier, director of the club’s youth academy, will take over Dufner’s responsibilities on an interim basis following the 45-year-old’s departure. “SC Freiburg is an amazingly-run club whom I will always have a bond with and be grateful to,” said the out-going sporting director. “It was always something special to work at this club.”
