"We're very glad to be able to hold onto one of our leading players and a positive role model at Borussia Dortmund for another year," Yellow-Blacks sporting director Michael Zorc said after the 33-year-old holding midfielder had put pen to paper.
"Continue making history"
Kehl himself added that the decision to extend had been an easy one, emphasising how much he has felt at home ever since joining the 2011 champions and 2012 domestic double winners back in 2002. "I'm glad to be part of this great club for at least another year and aim to continue making history as captain of the team", the 31-time former Germany international said.
Kehl has turned out 273 times in the Bundesliga to date for Dortmund, netting 23 goals.
