Frankfurt - Many promoted sides begin the new season with the intention of fighting tooth and nail for their top-flight survival. Not so Eintracht Frankfurt. While recognising the merits of grit and determination, the Eagles have seemingly already guaranteed their Bundesliga status next year with their entertaining, attacking brand of football.

Coach Armin Veh’s troops succumbed to their first league defeat of the campaign on Matchday 7, but by that time they had already chalked up an impressive 16 points. It was the best ever start to a Bundesliga campaign by a newly-promoted team. In typically understated fashion, Frankfurt are keen not to get ahead of themselves and remain focused on their initial objective of staying up.

Key to their high-flying performances have been Japanese star and attacking midfielder . The latter in particular is in the form of his life, with eleven league goals under his belt already, including three braces. “He should try and get a hat-trick,” Veh dryly commented when asked about the 30-year-old’s form.

Player of the season so far: Thomas Müller
