Hamburg derby: a study in contrasts

Kicking off Matchday 19 on Friday evening, it’s one of German football’s spiciest derbies – St. Pauli against Hamburg. When the sides met at the end of August, for the first time in many a long Bundesliga year, visitors St. Pauli claimed the local bragging rights. Now, HSV are out for revenge at the Millerntor. Two city neighbours with highly contrasting histories and images, as also embodied by HSV fan Sievi and St. Pauli diehard ‘Kiezpirat Kalle’. Bringing their two worlds briefly together, we sample the pre-derby atmosphere in Hamburg.
