Wasteful Wolfsburg in real danger as Eintracht Frankfurt take their chances
Eintracht Frankfurt secured a 2-1 victory at VfL Wolfsburg with goals from Oscar Højlund and Arnaud Kalimuendo to keep their grip on seventh place, while Wolfsburg's relegation concerns deepened.

The stakes couldn't have been higher for Wolfsburg as they welcomed Frankfurt to the Volkswagen Arena. The hosts were in the midst of their worst run in years, without a win in 11 Bundesliga matches and firmly entrenched in the automatic relegation zone. Dieter Hecking's side had collected just three points since the winter break, sitting four points from the relegation play-off spot and six from outright safety.
Frankfurt, meanwhile, were looking to maintain their slim chances of playing European football next season, knowing that seventh place could still be enough for UEFA Europa Conference League football.
Frankfurt show clinical edge
The early exchanges were tense and evenly contested, with neither side able to take control. Wolfsburg almost had a golden opportunity when Michael Zetterer slipped while attempting to clear, allowing Mohamed Amoura to charge him down. The ball fell in the direction of Patrick Wimmer - making his 100th appearance for the club - but he too slipped at the crucial moment and the chance went to waste.
Frankfurt immediately punished the hosts' wastefulness. In the 21st minute, Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab showed excellent skill on the right wing before laying the ball off to Oscar Højlund, who curled a magnificent strike from outside the box into the far corner via the post.
Eleven minutes later, Frankfurt doubled their advantage through a cleverly worked free-kick. Farès Chaïbi played a disguised pass into the path of Jonathan Burkardt, whose shot was saved by Kamil Grabara, only for Kalimuendo to blast home the rebound.
Wolves fight back in vain
Hecking responded at half-time by introducing Lovro Majer for Jesper Lindström, and the Croatian midfielder almost made an immediate impact. Just minutes after the restart, he whipped in a dipping free-kick that Zetterer was forced to tip onto the crossbar.
The hosts dominated the second half, creating chance after chance, but a combination of poor finishing and important saves from Zetterer kept them at bay. Wolfsburg registered 15 shots in the second half alone, but they couldn't find a breakthrough until the dying seconds.
In the seventh minute of stoppage time, substitute Adam Daghim delivered an inviting cross from the right, and fellow substitute Dženan Pejčinović rose highest to head past Zetterer. However, it proved to be merely a consolation, as Frankfurt held on to secure all three points and extend Wolfsburg's winless run to 12 matches— equalling their club-record negative streak.
Man of the Match: Oscar Højlund
The Danish midfielder was at the heart of Frankfurt's victory, producing a moment of genuine quality to break the deadlock. His 21st-minute strike from outside the box was executed perfectly, giving Grabara no chance as it clipped the inside of the post on its way in.
Beyond his goal, Højlund was instrumental in Frankfurt's midfield control, completing passes efficiently and helping to weather Wolfsburg's second-half storm. His overall contribution was reflected in the post-match accolades, with fans voting him Man of the Match with 40% of the vote. It was fitting recognition for a player whose quality ultimately made the difference in a tight contest.
