Frankfurt's return to the Champions League this term has been somewhat mixed. After claiming a thumping 5-1 victory on Matchday 1 at home to Galatasaray, Die Adler were beaten by the same scoreline at Atlético Madrid on Matchday 2

Write Eintracht off at your peril, though. If there is one thing Bundesliga fans know about Frankfurt, it is that once everything clicks, any team - as the rest of Europe is beginning to realise - will find it incredibly challenging to keep them out.

Watch: Free-scoring Frankfurt

So far in 2025/26, Dino Toppmöller's charges boast the second-best attacking record in the league with 19 goals, behind only Bayern Munich on 27. That, though, only tells part of the story: in ten games in all competitions they have found the back of the net a staggering 30 times.

Leading the line is Jonathan Burkardt, who has made an impressive start to life on the River Main since his summer switch from Mainz, with seven goals in nine appearances across all competitions - including a double in the 2-2 draw at Freiburg on Matchday 7.

A powerful contingent of wingers comprises fellow newcomer Ritsu Dōan, Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and Ansgar Knauff, all of whom bring with them an abundance of pace, a hunger to create chances and tireless work-rate.

Dōan alone has registered eight goal involvements in ten appearances (four goals, four assists), while both Bahoya's and Knauff's tallies stand at four apiece (three goals, one assist) in nine and ten outings, respectively.

Regardless of how well Frankfurt's attack has performed as a collective this term, one man who has grabbed all the headlines is rising starlet Can Uzun.

The 19-year-old playmaker has been termed "absolutely world-class" by Bundesliga legend Lothar Matthäus for stamping his authority on encounters this season.

The stats back up Matthäus' assessment, with Uzun netting in all of his first five Bundesliga appearances this term as well as registering three assists. "He has the confidence to do anything," Matthäus added.

At the other end of the pitch, much has also been made of Frankfurt's room for improvement in defence. Eighteen goals conceded in their opening seven matches is the most in the Bundesliga, but Toppmöller will see the visit of the English champions as a chance for the steely Robin Koch and his defensive colleagues to put the record right.

The bigger picture suggests things will pick up at the back, with Frankfurt boasting the fifth fewest goals conceded in Germany's top flight last season.

In Liverpool, they face a side who are not only on a four-match losing run in all competitions, but whose attack has failed to click in recent weeks. That much was clear in the 1-0 defeat in their last Champions League tie against Galatasaray, who had been humbled by Eintracht just two weeks earlier.

The location of the encounter could also play into Eintracht's hands. Frankfurt will be happy to face Liverpool on home turf, where they have suffered only one defeat in seven European matches. In contrast, the Reds have lost two out of their past three games on their continental travels.

All in all, Eintracht have the tools to inflict a fifth straight defeat on Liverpool on Wednesday. Watch this space!
