St. Pauli appoint US-born Fabian Hürzeler as new head coach
St. Pauli have named US-born Fabian Hürzeler as head coach, following the dismissal of Timo Schultz.
The 29-year-old served as Schultz's assistant, and had been in charge of first-team affairs on a temporary basis since 6 December.
"In his time as assistant coach and caretaker coach, Fabian has shown he tackles challenges in a very structured way and offers concrete solutions," explained Pauli sporting director Andreas Bornemann.
"In the current situation, it's important to give the team fresh impetus. We're convinced Fabian is the right man for the job."
Hürzeler, who was born in Texas and played for Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim in his youth, inherits a Pauli team sat 15th in Bundesliga 2, above the relegation zone on goal difference.
"It's a privilege to be able to work here. I saw it that way as assistant coach - and the same goes for the squad and all the backroom staff," the former Germany U18s and 20s assistant coach said.
"I have a huge appetite for the work and, with the right mix of togetherness and intensity, I'm convinced we'll be successful again."
Die Kiezkicker, who narrowly missed out on promotion under Schultz last season, resume their campaign away to Nuremberg on 29 January.
