Key stats

Born to a Cameroonian father and a French mother in Paris, Boey got his breakthrough in the game at Rennes, in the north-west of France, having joined their academy at the age of 14. Just four short years later, the right-back had made his senior debut for the first team in Ligue 1 when he took to the field in a draw with Toulouse in May 2019

Five more top-flight appearances
followed in the 2019/20 season - including a brief outing against a Paris Saint-Germain side managed by current Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel and that included new teammate Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

It was a loan spell at Ligue 1 rivals Dijon in 2020/21 that proved truly transformative though, the youngster making 24 league appearances - most of which were over the full 90 minutes.

That was enough to persuade Turkish giants Galatasaray to sign him on a permanent deal in summer 2021. In the two and half years since then, Boey has enhanced his reputation with four goals and four assists from 83 first-team games, while he was a key figure in helping Gala win the domestic league title in 2022/23.

Boey played the full 90 minutes against Bayern twice in the first half of the 2023/24 season, with Tuchel's side winning 3-1 away and 2-1 at home in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Plays a bit like: Achraf Hakimi

While Boey is sound defensively, it is going forward that he really catches the eye. Eager to join in attacks at every opportunity, his pace, driving runs and crosses into the box are reminiscent of former Borussia Dortmund full-back Achraf Hakimi.

Did you know?

Boey has worn the number 93 jersey for much of his career in a nod to his childhood. He grew up in the Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis, which is often colloquially known as "93", its administrative number.

What they're saying

“We’re pleased to have signed a young player with a lot of potential on a long-term deal in Sacha Boey. He performed really well in both Champions League games against us. It means we haven’t just improved our squad depth but also added further quality.” - Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern CEO

"Sacha is a good player: he runs hard, has technique, defends well. At Galatasaray, he plays on the right, right behind me. I'm not surprised by the interest from Juventus and the big names." - Galatasaray's Nicolo Zaniolo, speaking in summer 2023

"Sacha Boey is a player I really like. As a right-back too, I have to say I think he's great. I'm sure many clubs have Sacha Boey in mind." - former Arsenal, Manchester City and France defender Bacary Sagna
