Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed that homegrown midfielder Rocco Reitz will leave the club for Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig in the summer.

Reitz joined Gladbach at the age of seven, eventually breaking into the senior side in the latter part of 2020 following a productive loan spell with Belgium's Sint-Truiden.

The 23-year-old has since made over 95 competitive appearances for the Foals, captaining the side throughout the 2025/26 season in the absence of injured first-choice skipper Tim Kleindienst.

The 18-time Germany youth international has signed a five-year deal that will keep him at Leipzig until 2031.

Leipzig's acquisition of Reitz follows Kevin Kampl's mutual contract termination and fellow central midfielder Xaver Schlager's decision to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer said: "We have been able to sign an extremely versatile player, who will take up a central role as the connector between our defence and attack and will help strengthen our team."

Schäfer also praised Reitz's speed, running ability, game intelligence and added he has "the right mindset, and, despite his young age, strong leadership skills."

Reitz said: “I’ve decided to begin a new chapter in my career this summer. Of course, I understand that some people may struggle to understand my decision to leave the club. This decision was anything but easy for me. I can promise that I’ll give everything I have in every remaining game - especially in the derby this weekend."

Gladbach are 12th in the table and four points clear of the bottom three as they prepare to visit regional rivals Cologne this Saturday on Matchday 27 (kick-off: 3.30pm CET).
