Schalke sign Robin Gosens from Fiorentina
Robin Gosens will return to the Bundesliga for the 2026/27, joining the returning Schalke on an initial loan deal.
The 32-year-old had previously represented Union Berlin in Germany's top tier, playing 39 times before returning to Italy with Florence in the summer of 2024.
Gosens made a name for himself in Serie A, making over 150 appearances for Atalanta before being snapped up by giants Inter Milan in 2022, where he played 58 times on the way to picking up two Italian Cups and one Italian Supercup title.
“We are very happy that Robin Gosens has chosen to join us," said Schalke director of professional football Youri Mulder. "We are getting a player of immense quality and a true leader for our team. In recent years, Robin has demonstrated commitment, mentality, and an unwavering will to succeed at his clubs and with the national team. His impressive career – from underrated talent to key player on the international stage – makes him a role model who, in our opinion, is a perfect fit for Schalke."
With 24 Germany caps to his name, four of which came during Euro 2020, Gosens brings a wealth of top-level experience to Schalke's full-back department.
He'll now aim to keep his new side in the Bundesliga following their return to the top tier after five years away, and could sign permanently should certain clauses be met.
Upon the announcement, Gosens himself said, "Schalke and their management made a real effort to sign me. They outlined their plan and explained exactly what my role would be and what they expect from me. That was absolutely convincing. I'm really up for it. I want to lead by example and take on responsibility. Everyone knows I have a special connection to Schalke. I'm really excited about this challenge and I'm looking forward to giving my all on the pitch with the guys."
