Bayern Munich's Luis Díaz rediscovers mojo against RB Leipzig

After a relatively low-key start to the campaign following Colombia's FIFA World Cup 2026 last-16 exit to Switzerland, Luis Díaz served up a timely reminder of just how devastating he can be in Bayern Munich's 6-1 rout of RB Leipzig.

Díaz looked much more like the player who took the Bundesliga by storm last season, with his electric dribbling, intelligent movement and sharp awareness causing all manner of problems from start to finish.

The Colombian winger was a constant threat, combining flair with end product as he hit a quite brilliant hat-trick.

It was only his second treble in the Bundesliga, following his three-goal haul against Hoffenheim last February, and a clear statement that he has found top gear once again.

Unsurprisingly, Díaz took Man of the Match honours with 84 percent of the fan vote after also producing a fine assist for Aleksandar Pavlović.

While Leipzig right-back Lukas Klostermann endured a night to forget, it was one of Díaz's most memorable displays since swapping Liverpool for Bayern in summer 2025.

"I'm incredibly happy for Lucho - he really deserves this. Sure, he missed a few chances at the start of the season, but he already put up incredible numbers for us last term," said Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich, whose trademark chipped pass caught the Leipzig defence cold for Díaz's opener.

"He played an outstanding game and was definitely the man of the match. I'm really happy for him."

Díaz is now up to six goal involvements in 10 competitive appearances so far this season, adding to his 26 goals and 23 assists across Bayern's double-winning 2025/26 campaign.

With the bar reset, Díaz can be quietly confident of surpassing 50 single-season goal contributions for the first time in his career as Bayern bid to defend their Bundesliga and DFB Cup crowns and end a seven-year wait for UEFA Champions League gold.
