16-year-old Kennet Eichhorn makes more history in Hertha Berlin’s clash with Hannover
Hertha Berlin starlet Kennet Eichhorn etched his name into the history books on Saturday by becoming the youngest player ever to start in Bundesliga 2.
Having already become the league's youngest-ever player on Matchday 2, Eichhorn wrote further history when he was handed a starting position for Hertha in the club's Matchday 5 away game against Hannover. At just 16 years and 48 days, Eichhorn has smashed the previous record set by Regensburg's Ben Kieffer. Kieffer was 17 years and 55 days old when he started on Matchday 29 of last season.

Having only recently celebrated his birthday on 27 July, Eichhorn was just 16 years and 14 days old when he came on for Hertha in their goalless Matchday 2 draw against Karlsruhe.
As a result, he surpassed the previous record set in 2021 by Efe-Kaan Sihlaroğlu, who was 16 years and 142 days when he made his league debut - incidentally for Karlsruhe.
Eichhorn has been on Hertha's books since the U9s and is now also the youngest professional player in the capital club’s history - a title which previously belonged to his teammate Boris Mamuzah Lum, who made his debut last year.
