Harry Kane has already surpassed milestones of greats like Wayne Rooney and Gerd Müller in the 2024/25 Champions League. His tenth strike in the competition in a 2-0 away win at Bayer Leverkusen in the last 16, second leg saw the Bayern Munich striker set another record as the first English player to score 10 goals in a single campaign.

Kane reached his latest milestone with a 52nd-minute goal that sent Bayern 4-0 up on aggregate against their Bundesliga rivals as they booked a quarter-final spot. The unrelenting strike-sensation smashed seven goals in the league stage - including four in Bayern's 9-2 opening win against Dinamo Zagreb, and also hit a brace in Bayern's 3-0 first-leg win against Bayer 04 in Munich.

The 10 strikes he has managed so far in the 2024/25 Champions League not only pull him level with Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy in the race to be the tournament's top scorer this season - the pair are one strike behind Barcelona's Raphinha - but see him set a new record. Kane has gone beyond illustrious names like Wayne Rooney, Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham in becoming the first English player ever to make double figures in a Champions League campaign.

Watch: Record king Harry Kane

Kane has already leapfrogged Rooney in another important regard this season, in becoming the English player with the most total goals in Champions League history - in a season he has also become the highest-scoring English player in Bundesliga history. Kane's 39 goals in 55 Champions League appearances places him ahead of other international greats like Gerd Müller and Ferenc Puskás in 22nd place in the all-time scoring list of the competition (and its predecessor, the European Cup).

In typical Kane fashion, where one record has been broken, there is another one within reach. A perfectly placed assist for Alphonso Davies's second goal in Leverkusen saw Kane become the second English player to reach 50 Champions League goal contributions, after David Beckham.

Beckham's total of 52 goal involvements will surely be in Kane's sights now as he and Bayern prepare for a quarter-final clash with Inter Milan in April. Kane will also be confident of becoming the competition's top scorer for the second consecutive season after his eight goals in 2023/24 saw him tie with Kylian Mbappé for that honour. With a final in Bayern's Allianz Arena home moving closer on the horizon - the tantalising prospect of yet more history beckons for Kane and the Bundesliga league leaders.
