Freiburg have announced they have signed Eren Dinkçi from Werder Bremen for next season following his impressive form while on loan at Heidenheim in the 2023/24 campaign.

Dinkçi has scored eight times and tallied three assists to help Heidenheim close in on securing top-flight survival in their maiden season in the Bundesliga.

"Freiburg approached me relatively early and made a good impression from the start. It was clear to me then that this was the direction I wanted to take," said the 22-year-old, who played 50 first-team games for Bremen before moving to the Voith-Arena last summer.

"I think I have a good flow right now, and I would like to take that with me to Freiburg. I have already played there with Bremen, and I'm looking forward to the atmosphere very much."

Born in Bremen, Dinkçi joined his hometown club aged 18 and was prolific with Werder's youth and reserve sides before making his first-team debut when he came off the bench to score a late winner at Mainz in a Bundesliga match in December 2020. He would have had just 12 months left on his existing contract with Werder this summer.

"Eren has a very exciting and flexible profile," said Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. "Among other qualities, you can see his pace and a great understanding of the game allied with his finishing. We already wanted to work with him when he was in Werder's U19 team.

"He's in his first season as a Bundesliga regular, and so still has a lot of potential. We're really happy Eren has decided to join us, and that we can go into next season with him."
