Freiburg qualify for UEFA Conference League after dominant display in play-off second leg against Motherwell
Freiburg secured their spot in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League after a 7-2 aggregate play-off victory against Motherwell. On the night, the Bundesliga outfit claimed a 4-1 win in the second leg thanks to goals from Derry Scherhant, Igor Matanović, Cyriaque Irié and new signing Keisuke Gotō.

Freiburg came into the second leg with a comfortable lead, after winning 3-1 at Fir Park Stadium last Thursday.
The second leg victory was more of the same, as Scherhant extended Freiburg's advantage after just six minutes with an ice-cold finish. While Julian Schuster's men did suffer a setback shorlty after following a Mio Backhaus error, the Breisgauers recovered well in the second half, with three quickfire strikes from Matanović, Irié, and Gotō putting the tie out of reach for Motherwell.
Freiburg are now in the hat for the league phase draw, which takes place on Friday 28 August (1.00pm CEST) at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
