Freiburg to play HJK or Motherwell in UEFA Conference League play-off round
Freiburg have learned their potential opponents in the UEFA Conference League play-off round, where a place in the 36-team league phase will be at stake.
Julian Schuster's side will face either Finnish side HJK Helsinki or Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell over two legs, with the first leg scheduled for 20 August away and the return on 27 August in Freiburg.
Their opponents will be decided in the third qualifying round, with HJK and Motherwell meeting on 6 and 13 August.
Freiburg qualified for the Conference League play-off round after finishing seventh in the Bundesliga last season. They are aiming to return to the competition's main stage after reaching the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League final, where they were beaten 3-0 by England's Aston Villa.
Should Die Breisgauer progress, they will discover their league-phase opponents in the competition's main draw on 28 August. The Conference League league phase begins on 15 October.
