Eintracht Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche leaves role
Eintracht Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche has requested to step down from his role with immediate effect, the club confirmed on Sunday.
It brings to an end his five-year spell at the club, during which time Frankfurt won the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League.
Mathias Beck, president of Eintracht Frankfurt, said the club's supervisory board granted Krösche's request. He stated on the club's website: "Markus Krösche played a key role in shaping Eintracht Frankfurt in recent years and made a major contribution to the club’s success on the pitch.
"Winning the Europa League, participating in the Champions League and developing our squad are just some examples of what has been an extraordinary period. For that, he deserves our heartfelt thanks and recognition.
“We held very good, open and trusting discussions about our future in recent weeks. Eintracht Frankfurt is a club with high expectations and great ambitions. This role demands complete commitment and the ability to deliver from everyone in a position of responsibility at all times. With that in mind, we respected his wish to be relieved of his duties with immediate effect and the supervisory board agreed to his request.
“It was particularly important to us to resolve this matter and communicate the decision publicly ahead of the upcoming general meeting. We part ways with great mutual respect and wish Markus all the very best for the future.”
Krösche departs the club just days after Frankfurt's 1-0 home win against Cologne.

In his farewell statement to the club, Krösche stated on Sunday: “The past few years at Eintracht Frankfurt have been an extraordinary, intense and unforgettable period for me. Together, we have celebrated great successes and helped the club develop both on the pitch and financially.
"Winning the Europa League and sharing so many special moments with our fans will always mean a great deal to me. I am extremely grateful for those experiences.
“Over the past few months, I have spent a lot of time reflecting on my personal circumstances and professional future. After more than five very successful but also very demanding years at this wonderful club, I have increasingly felt that I need a change – and that a new impetus might also benefit Eintracht.
He added: “My special thanks go to all the staff, coaches, players and, of course, our incredible fans. Eintracht Frankfurt will always be a very special club to me, and I wish everyone involved nothing but the best for the future.”
While it currently remains to be seen what the future has in store for Krösche, Frankfurt's next test is a daunting trip to title-chasing Borussia Dortmund on 24 October.
