Setback for Borussia Mönchengladbach's Robin Hack

Borussia Mönchengladbach attacker Robin Hack has suffered an injury setback, just as he was on the cusp of making his return from a long-term knee complaint.

Hack damaged the meniscus in his knee in November last year, but had recovered to the extent that he was pushing for a place in the Borussia Mönchengladbach squad to face Bayern Munich on Friday.

However, the 27-year-old has now suffered an adductor muscle tear that will keep him out of action for several more weeks.

"Things were going really well for Robin," Gladbach head coach Eugen Polanski told Germany's Bild newspaper. "Unfortunatley he's now torn a muscle, so he's out again. It's bad news for Hacki, and bad news for us."

Gladbach have only scored 27 times in the Bundesliga all season - the joint fifth-lowest in Germany's top flight - so Hack's pace and nose for goal would have been a welcome boon in their bid to pull further clear of the relegation zone.

Team-mate Nathan Ngoumou is likewise in the treatment room, while Kota Takai is rated doubtful for Friday's trip to Munich.

“We know what we’re up against,” said Polanski. “But if we give up now, then there’s no point in us even showing up. It goes without saying that we need to put in a top performance and give our all on Friday in order to succeed.”
