Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Eugen Polanski leaves club
Borussia Mönchengladbach have parted ways with coach Eugen Polanski after the Foals began the Bundesliga season with three successive defeats.
Polanski's departure comes almost exactly a year after he was appointed as the successor to Gerardo Seoane, initially on an interim basis.
He then became permanent head coach last November and guided Gladbach to a 12th-placed finish in 2025/26.
Gladbach sporting director Rouven Schröder said: "Despite a good pre-season and positive signs, the team have not managed to achieve the desired results in the Bundesliga. Recent performances led to the decision to relieve Eugen of his duties with immediate effect."
A 3-0 defeat at RB Leipzig on Matchday 1 of the new season was followed be a 4-3 loss at home to newly promoted Elversberg and 5-0 defeat at Freiburg in what would be his last match in charge. His assistant Tobias Trulsen has also been dismissed.
Schröder added: "Eugen is a Borussia man through and through. We would like to thank him, as well as Tobias Trulsen, for their commitment to Borussia."
Polanski said: "Borussia Mönchengladbach was and remains my club. That is why it hurts so immensely that things have turned out this way. After successfully avoiding relegation, we made a few changes for this season. We had set ambitious goals but could not deliver on them. I am truly sorry about that.
"I really hope that Borussia get back on track very quickly. I wish the club, the team, and all the wonderful fans nothing but the best. Thank you for the time we shared."
Gladbach confirmed Jan-Moritz Lichte will be in charge on an interim basis ahead of their Matchday 4 fixture at home to Mainz next Saturday (kick-off: 3:30pm CEST).
