Borussia Dortmund's Julien Duranville to undergo surgery
Borussia Dortmund attacker Julien Duranville is to undergo surgery on a shoulder injury sustained against Real Madrid at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Duranville replaced Julian Brandt in the 63rd minute of Dortmund's 3-2 quarter-final defeat on 5 July, but had to be taken off just 18 minutes later after hurting his shoulder.
With Niko Kovač's side now back in Germany, the 19-year-old underwent a comprehensive examination on Thursday, the result of which determined that an operation was necessary.
"It’s very unfortunate that Julien injured his shoulder through such an unlucky incident," said Dortmund sporting director Sebasitan Kehl.
"We all worked successfully together on his physical stability over the past season – which makes this setback all the more of a bitter pill to swallow. Nevertheless, we remain positive and optimistic, because Julien is an outstanding talent. We will do everything we can to support his recovery process and subsequent reintegration in the best possible way."
It is not yet known how long the Belgian youngster will be out of action for.
