Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre: "Everything is possible" in Bundesliga title race

Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre is far from giving up the ghost in the race for the 2018/19 Bundesliga title. With three Matchdays remaining and just two points separating his side and league leaders Bayern Munich, the Swiss supremo believes “everything is possible.”

Going into the season's final stretch, the Bundesliga trophy is in Bayern's hands. Three more wins for Die Roten will deliver them the Meisterschale and Favre is keenly aware Dortmund must rely on their rivals dropping points.

His renewed optimism, however, stems from Bayern unexpectedly doing just that in their Matchday 31 draw with second-bottom Nuremberg.

In the end, the reigning champions were grateful to come away with a point after seeing Tim Leibold miss a Nuremberg penalty in the 90th minute.

"It was not planned that Bayern only draw in Nuremberg," said Favre ahead of his side's Matchday 32 trip to Werder Bremen.

"Now everything is possible again. It's our obligation to give everything, it's simple."

Favre’s belief that there is all to play for in pursuit of Dortmund’s first league championship in seven years comes just a week after the crushing Revierderby defeat to Schalke that saw the 61-year-old claim “the title race is done.”

But the former Hertha Berlin and Borussia Mönchengladbach coach says both he and his players have newfound belief after watching Bayern’s wobble at their Nuremberg neighbours.

"The players see the table, they have seen Bayern in Nuremberg, everything is different after this result," he said, before adding his players are "not stupid, they know everything is possible, we have to win this game."

The rallying calls coming out of the Signal Iduna Park this week have been loud and clear, with Manuel Akanji saying “there’s still hope” and former captain Sebastian Kehl adding; “We will never give up hope and we will fight to the end, that is in our DNA.”

And Dortmund will need to eke out every ounce of that inherent fight as they head into a testing final run-in.

The Bremen fixture is followed by the hosting of Fortuna Düsseldorf a week later and a journey to Borussia Mönchengladbach on the final day.
