Borussia Dortmund’s biggest wins in the UEFA Champions League
Borussia Dortmund set a new club record for their biggest win in the UEFA Champions League as they thrashed Celtic 7-1 in their first home game of the 2024/25 campaign. Who else have they beaten for some of their greatest European victories?
It was yet another huge display from a Bundesliga team in this year’s league phase, with the 7-1 win on Matchday 2 following on from Bayern Munich's historic 9-2 demolition of Dinamo Zagreb on opening week.
Karim Adeyemi netted a first-half hat-trick against the Scottish champions at Signal Iduna Park for a 5-1 half-time lead, while Serhou Guirassy bagged himself a brace in the rout.

It wasn’t the first time that Dortmund had hit seven in a Champions League fixture, though. They actually struck eight against Legia Warsaw back in 2016 in what turned into the highest-scoring game in the competition’s history (for any team) with 12 goals shared in an 8-4 win at the Westfalenstadion. BVB also got seven back when the competition was the European Cup, beating Spora Luxembourg 7-0 in 1956.
Borussia Dortmund’s 5 biggest Champions League wins:
1. Dortmund 7-0 Celtic, 1 October 2024
2. Legia Warsaw 0-6 Dortmund, 16 September 2016
3. Dortmund 5-0 Besiktas, 7 December 2021
4. Dortmund 8-4 Legia Warsaw, 22 November 2016
=5. Dortmund 4-0 Atlético Madrid, 24 October 2018
