Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will compete for the 2023 Supercup against DFB Cup winners RB Leipzig when the pair meet at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, 12 August.

Bayern and Leipzig both retained their respective trophies from the 2021/22 season, so this year's Supercup sees a re-run of the 2022 edition. That took place at Leipzig's Red Bull Arena, with Bayern claiming the Supercup for a third straight season after a thrilling 5-3 win.

The Supercup is usually hosted by the DFB Cup holders, but Bayern have previously hosted as Bundesliga champions, most recently in 2020 against Borussia Dortmund. It has again been agreed between both clubs and the DFL that the game will be played in Munich at the Allianz Arena this year.

Watch: Bayern won a thrilling Supercup in Leipzig last year

After winning the Bundesliga for a record-extending 11th straight year, Bayern are making their 12th consecutive appearance in the traditional season-opening fixture. They are looking to win the Supercup for an 11th time.

Leipzig feature in the Supercup for the second time in their history after also appearing last year following their maiden DFB Cup success in 2022. They retained the trophy thanks to victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in Berlin in early June.

Watch: Leipzig beat Bayern in Munich for the first time on the penultimate weekend of last season

The match comes the week before the 2023/24 Bundesliga season gets under way, which it set to see champions Bayern kick things off on Friday, 18 August. The new DFB Cup campaign begins on the weekend of the Supercup, so Bayern and Leipzig’s first-round fixtures will be pushed back to Tuesday 26/Wednesday 27 September.
