Ritsu Dōan comes off the bench to rescue point for Eintracht Frankfurt against stubborn Augsburg
Eintracht Frankfurt's Ritsu Dōan came off the bench to score a crucial equaliser against Augsburg, cancelling out Anton Kade's first-half opener in a combative Matchday 31 Bundesliga clash that ended with honours even.

The WWK-Arena provided the backdrop for an emotionally charged contest as Augsburg welcomed Eintracht Frankfurt with mathematical safety within touching distance. Manuel Baum's Fuggerstädter knew a victory would guarantee their Bundesliga status for a 16th consecutive season, having built an impressive 10-point cushion to the relegation zone after collecting 26 points from 18 matches since their manager took charge back in December.
For the visitors, Albert Riera's side arrived with European ambitions fading, having amassed just four points from their previous four fixtures and struggling for consistency in attack.
Before kick-off, both sets of players and fans observed a poignant minute's silence for former Augsburg goalkeeper Alexander Manninger, who tragically passed away in a car accident eight days earlier.
Augsburg began the match with greater intent, pressing high and forcing early corners through the lively Alexis Claude-Maurice, while Frankfurt struggled to maintain possession despite enjoying more of the ball.
The visitors gradually found their rhythm midway through the first half, with 17-year-old Love Arrhov making his full Bundesliga debut but chances remained at a premium. Arnaud Kalimuendo went closest for Frankfurt with a shot that nestled in the side netting, while Can Uzun saw his curling effort fly over the bar.
Just as the half appeared to be drifting towards a goalless conclusion, Augsburg struck in the 44th minute. Michael Gregoritsch crashed a powerful shot against the post, and Anton Kade reacted quickest to slam home the rebound, providing an important goal for his side just before the interval.
Riera responded decisively at the interval, introducing Ritsu Dōan and Ansgar Knauff, with the changes immediately shifting momentum in Frankfurt's favour. Uzun nearly equalised within minutes of the restart but slipped at the crucial moment, before Nathaniel Brown's dangerous low cross just eluded Kalimuendo.
Augsburg remained a threat, however, with Gregoritsch agonisingly striking the woodwork again from Claude-Maurice's corner in the 54th minute, before the visitors thought they had levelled when Kalimuendo slotted past Finn Dahmen, only for the offside flag to cut short his celebrations.
The equaliser finally arrived in the 66th minute through a brilliantly worked counter-attack. Knauff drove forward before finding Uzun on the edge of the box, who laid it perfectly into the path of Dōan, and the Japanese international took one touch before rifling the ball in off the inside of the post.
The final quarter of the match became an end-to-end affair with both sides pushing for a winner. Rodrigo Ribeiro, who had replaced Gregoritsch, nearly restored Augsburg's lead but couldn't keep his effort on target when well-positioned.
Frankfurt's relentless pressure then saw Uzun force a smart save from Dahmen, while Hugo Larsson's fierce drive was also repelled by the increasingly busy Augsburg keeper.
At the other end, Michael Zetterer produced equally impressive stops to deny Ribeiro, Marius Wolf, and Kade in quick succession as Augsburg threatened on the break. Rasmus Kristensen, making his first appearance since February for Frankfurt, almost snatched a dramatic winner in stoppage time, but his deflected shot was spectacularly tipped away by Dahmen to ensure the points were shared.
Man of the Match: Can Uzun
The 20-year-old Turkish prodigy delivered a masterclass in creativity, providing the crucial assist for Dōan's equaliser while consistently threatening throughout the match.
Uzun recorded a game-high seven shots, and completed an impressive 87% of his passes despite being the most pressed player on the pitch. His vision and technical quality shone through in the final third, constantly finding pockets of space between Augsburg's defensive lines.
The young midfielder's dynamic performance earned him the highest fantasy points total (382) of any player on the pitch, reaffirming his status as one of the Bundesliga's most exciting talents.
