Arthur Theate completes loan move to Bologna from Eintracht Frankfurt

Arthur Theate has completed a move to Italian Serie A side Bologna from Eintracht Frankfurt, the Eagles have confirmed.

The Belgium international has joined his former club - where he spent 2021/22 - on an initial loan deal until the end of the season with an option to buy.

“We would like to thank Arthur for the past two years spent with us and all of his commitment to Eintracht Frankfurt,” said sporting director Timmo Hardung. “He quickly established himself as an important part of our team, and we would like to wish him all the very best for the future both on and off the pitch in Bologna.”

During his two-year stay at Deutsche Bank Park, having signed from French Ligue 1 side Rennes in August 2024 on loan which later became permanent in February 2025, Theate made 75 appearances across all competitions for the Hessen club, including 55 in the Bundesliga.

The 26-year-old becomes the latest departure at Frankfurt this transfer window, having followed fellow defenders Rasmus Kristensen and Aurèle Amenda, who joined Denmark’s Midtjylland and England’s Coventry City respectively, out of the exit door.

After being held to a 3-3 stalemate against Union Berlin on the Bundesliga’s opening matchday, Adi Hütter’s Eagles host Augsburg on 6 September.
