Eintracht Frankfurt have signed Germany international winger Amin Younes from Napoli on a two-year loan until the end of 2021/22.

Younes, 27, is a product of the Borussia Mönchengladbach academy, having made his Bundesliga debut with the Foals under Lucien Favre in April 2012. He spent a year on loan at Kaiserslautern before a move to Ajax.

After finishing as runner-up with the Dutch side in the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League, the left winger, who was also eligible to represent Lebanon, was called up to Joachim Löw’s squad for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Younes played twice in Russia, scoring in the 4-1 semi-final win over Mexico as the 2014 world champions went on to lift the trophy against Chile in Saint Petersburg.

“In Amin, we’re getting a player who is a good dribbler and technically versatile, and with a large amount of international experience,” said Frankfurt board member for sport Fredi Bobic.

In 2018, Younes joined Napoli, requesting the number 34 shift in tribute to former Ajax teammate Abdelhak Nouri, who suffered permanent brain damage after collapsing on the pitch in a July 2017 friendly with Werder Bremen. However, he made just 27 appearances over two seasons in Italy due to injury.

“Amin has the best chance to rediscover his former strength in Frankfurt and help us,” Bobic continued. “The fact Amin is joining us right now and making large financial concessions to play for Eintracht shows his character and his identification with Eintracht.”

Younes will be able to watch his new team take on Hoffenheim on Matchday 3 in the Bundesliga, with a debut likely after the international break when Frankfurt head to Cologne on Sunday, 18 October.
