Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Heidenheim 1-0 through Arnaud Kalimuendo's eye-catching volley, and defended resolutely with ten men after Robin Koch's red card, to continue their strong form under Albert Riera.

The Eagles had won both their previous home games under the Spanish tactician without conceding. Heidenheim, meanwhile, arrived at Deutsche Bank Park in desperate need of points, sitting bottom of the table and winless in 12 Bundesliga matches – an undesirable club record.

Cagey first half gives way to eye-catching breakthrough

The opening 45 minutes offered little in the way of excitement, with Frankfurt controlling possession but struggling to break down Heidenheim's compact defensive shape. A tame effort from Hugo Larsson represented the only shot on target before the interval. The hosts began the second period with greater intent, and Ritsu Dōan fired two efforts over the bar in quick succession. The breakthrough arrived in arresting fashion after 53 minutes, when Arnaud Kalimuendo adjusted his body and executed a brilliant volley from seven metres following a headed knock-down from Eintracht captain Robin Koch.

Ten-man Eagles hold firm

The complexion of the match changed dramatically in the 73rd minute when Koch received a second yellow card for a late challenge, leaving the hosts to defend their slender advantage with ten men. Heidenheim thought they had equalised moments later when Sirlord Conteh found the net, but VAR ruled the substitute offside. Despite increased pressure from Frank Schmidt's side in the closing stages, Frankfurt's defence remained resolute. Substitute Omar Haktab Traoré's long-range effort was the closest the visitors came to an equaliser, but Michael Zetterer made a comfortable save to preserve all three points for the Eagles.

Man of the Match: Arnaud Kalimuendo

Arnaud Kalimuendo proved to be the difference-maker with a moment of individual brilliance that settled this tight contest. The forward demonstrated exceptional technical skill and perfect timing to execute his scissors kick, converting a chance that had an xG of just 11.9%. Beyond his match-winning contribution, Kalimuendo was a consistent threat throughout, linking play effectively and creating a shooting opportunity for teammate Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab late in the game. Deservedly voted Man of the Match by fans with 62% of the vote, his performance exemplified the clinical edge that Frankfurt have displayed this season.
