Full-time: Hoffenheim 1-0 Bremen

Not a lot of action in the second half, but the damage was done in the first. Sugawara's early red card put Hoffenheim in the driving seat, and once Touré fired home the opener, a Bremen comeback never really looked likely.

Great effort

Burger lines up a shot and tries his luck from 30 yards. Backhaus is beaten, but the ball whips just past the post.

Important block

A great delivery from the left is flicked on by Grüll, but Hajdari is there to make a vital block.
85'

Can Bremen spring a surprise?

There are still five minutes remaining, and Hoffenheim still only lead 1-0.
80'

So close

Hajdari sends in a great cross, and Campbell challenges Deman at the back post. The ball hits a combination of the two and deflects just wide.
77'

A lack of urgency

Hoffenheim look pretty comfortable, but they could do with adding to their goal difference to give themselves a better chance of qualifying for the Champions League. Everything has been a bit too pedestrian today.
71'

Substitution

68'

Well over

Puertas fires the resulting free-kick comfortably over the bar.
66'

Bernardo in the book

Bernardo clips the heels of Stage as he looks to burst through on goal and picks up a yellow card. Stage thinks it was the denial of a goalscoring opportunity, but Hoffenheim did have defensive cover.

Bremen still carry a threat

Njinmah, in particular, has had a couple of good sights of goal for the visitors.

Off the upright

Prass drives a shot towards goal that is saved by Backhaus. From the resulting corner, Burger whips in what appears to be a cross, but the ball floats all the way through and bounces clear off the woodwork on the far side. The ball then drops to Kabak, but his shot from close range is blocked.

Bremen not without chances

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Hoffenheim may be ahead on the scoreboard and have a man advantage, but Bremen remain a danger on the break.

Asllani misses the chance

Asllani should meet a great ball in from Burger at the back post, but he can't connect on the volley, and the ball bounces out for a goal kick.
57'

Off goes the goalscorer

Prass is on to replace Touré.
55'

Almost another Njinmah chance

A long ball forward finds its way to Njinmah, but his shot is blocked as he makes his way towards goal.
51'

Coufal hesitates

Coufal shows some neat footwork to get into the box, but he can't quite decide what to do when he gets there, and in the end, he kicks the ground when crossing and the ball rolls into the grateful arms of Backhaus.
50'

Njinmah wastes the opportunity

Deman sets Njinmah through with a superb pass, and Njinmah just has the keeper to beat, but he can only shoot straight at Baumann.
49'

Dangerous

Schmid's whipped cross from the left narrowly avoids Stage in the centre. Any touch, and Baumann might have been struggling. A couple of moments later, Njinmah tries his luck, but misses the target.
46'

Another big chance for Lemperle

Coufal whips in a trademark cross that finds its way through to Lemperle at the back post. He gets his head to it unmarked, but the effort drifts centimetres wide of the post.

Half-time: Hoffenheim 1-0 Bremen

It might only be 1-0, but Hoffenheim are cruising at the break. They have a man advantage and the lead, with Sugawara having seen red after just five minutes, before Touré opened the scoring. With the race for Champions League football so close, the hosts will surely be looking to add to their goal difference after the break.

Lemperle denied

Coufal finds Lemperle in the box with a neat pass, but he can only fire at Backhaus whilst under pressure. That was a good opportunity.

Added time

There will be four extra minutes before the break.
41'

Puertas in the book

Puertas picks up a yellow for delaying the restart by carrying an extra ball onto the pitch.
38'

Off target

Burger tries his luck, but misses the target.
34'

That could have been a chance

Njinmah bursts away down the right, and he has Schmid in the centre. He finds his teammate, but the pass isn't quite precise enough, and Schmid doesn't have the legs to escape the last defender. Hoffenheim eventually clear.
32'

Asllani denied

Kabak spots and finds the run of Asllani in the box. He shoots from the angle, but Backhaus stands up big to parry the ball behind.
30'

Not far away

Njinmah skips inside from the left and hits a powerful effort towards the top corner that narrowly misses the target.
29'

Double chance

Deman is fed through on the left, and he unleashes a powerful drive that Baumann is forced to parry. Puertas then finds Lynen with the loose ball, and he drives over the bar.
28'

That was the first shot on target

Touré's goal was the first shot that we've seen on target today.

Touré fires Hoffenheim in front

Bremen make a mess playing out from the back and concede a needless corner. Asllani takes the corner quickly to Kramarić, and Bremen are napping. Kramarić then feeds Touré inside the box, and he sweeps into the far corner.

Coufal whips in a superb cross that is met by the head of Kramarić in the centre, but he can only head wide from a good position.
21'

Magic feet

Burger produces some lovely technique to maintain possession in the box, before Touré nutmegs his man on the wing.
20'

Hoffenheim turning up the pressure

The hosts are getting some good deliveries into the box now, but to no avail so far. Touré's dangerous cross causes Backhaus some problems, but Bremen survive.
14'

Over the bar

The ball is laid off to Deman on the edge of the box to strike, but his shot has too much height on it.
12'

An early change

Perhaps not surprisingly, Thioune has opted for an early change. Schmidt replaces starting XI debutant Musah.
10'

First sight of goal

Avdullahu chips a delicate ball over the defence to Asllani, who connects on the volley, but not cleanly, and the ball flies wide. That was always going to be tricky to convert.

Sugawara is sent off

It was a poor tackle, and after a VAR review, Sugawara has been sent off for that challenge on Touré.

Hoffenheim team news

Hoffenheim, meanwhile, are unchanged from the side that suffered a late equaliser against Stuttgart last time out. That means Kramarić will once again be leading his side's attacking charge from midfield.
camera-photo

Bremen team news

It's two changes for Bremen from the side that was beaten by Augsburg last time out. Coulibaly and Milošević are the ones to drop to the bench, with Njinmah and Musah (pictured) coming into the starting XI. It'll be 20-year-old Musah's first start.

Christian Ilzer on facing Bremen

"Even though Bremen lost their last match, they are finding their form. They play a flexible, positional game and are one of the strongest teams at winning duels. We know we have to perform at the highest level.”
camera-photo

Daniel Thioune on facing Hoffenheim

“Hoffenheim are a very strong team. They try to make a lot happen in possession. They play very high up in the opposition half. That is a bit of a blessing and a curse at the same time. They dominate games and see a lot of possession, but that also leaves space to exploit in transition. That’s where TSG can perhaps be got at in one or two moments."
camera-photo

Contrasting attacks

Andrej Kramarić, who recently extended his contract at Hoffenheim, has been electric in the second half of the season, scoring eight of his 14 season goals from Matchday 18 onwards. Bremen, by contrast, lack such a prolific marksman, with midfielder Jens Stage their top scorer with 10. Overall, Werder have been outscored by all but two teams and require, on average, 12 shots per goal - the joint-highest number in the Bundesliga in 2025/26 alongside St. Pauli.
camera-photo

Tough on the road

Still, 2025/26 on the whole has been difficult for Bremen away from home. Only St. Pauli and Heidenheim have managed fewer than their 13 points on their travels, which is their worst top-flight record since 2008/09.
camera-photo

Bremen's strong Hoffenheim record

Since Hoffenheim's promotion, Bremen have only picked up more away points against Mainz (31) than Hoffenheim (27). That includes last season's 4-3 win, when they came from three goals down to prevail.
camera-photo

Bremen on the brink

The visitors, meanwhile, have prevailed in just one of their past five outings. Still, a point here would see them safe for another year.
camera-photo

Strong end to the campaign

After a slight dip, Hoffenheim are now unbeaten in their past four games, even if they will feel they should have beaten Stuttgart on Matchday 32, given their two-goal lead and man advantage. Still, two wins from their remaining two games would see them register their highest-ever points tally in the Bundesliga and would also give them a fantastic chance of securing a UEFA Champions League spot.

Watch: Bremen 0-2 Hoffenheim - previous meeting

Although they lost Wouter Burger to a red card, Hoffenheim picked up all three when these two last met in January, with Alexander Prass and Grischa Prömel scoring the goals.

Watch: Hoffenheim 3-3 VfB Stuttgart - last time out

Hoffenheim threw away a two-goal lead against 10-man Stuttgart last time out to miss out on moving into the top four. They currently trail Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen on goal difference.

Watch: Bremen 1-3 Augsburg - last time out

Bremen suffered a disappointing home defeat to Augsburg last time out as they were unable to mathematically guarantee Bundesliga safety. They are, however, six points clear of the bottom three with two games to go.
