Full-time: Wolfsburg 1-2 Franfkurt

Wolfsburg's plumet continues as they make it five consecutive home defeats on the bounce. The hosts were much the better side after the break, and should have scored more, but they just couldn't take their chances, meaning Frankfurt were able to hold out for all three points.

A late consolation

Daghim whips in a dangerous cross from the right, and Pejčinović is there to meet the delivery and head home, but it is too little too late.

A couple of opportunities for Skhiri

Skhiri finds Kalimuendo, who returns the favour inside the box. Skhiri gets two chances to try his luck, but both efforts are tame and Wolfsburg clear.
88'

Pejčinović can't hit the target

The young striker works himself some space before firing over the bar.

Narrowly wide again

Amoura gets in behind on the right and drills in a low cross that deflects into the path of Eriksen. He shoots, but his effort bobbles narrowly wide of the far post.
63'

Wimmer again

The Austrian is found in the box, but his header back across goal is gratefully gathered by Zetterer.
61'

Wimmer fires wide

Wimmer bursts into the box and shoots from the angle, but can only hit the side netting.
60'

Just wide

The ball is lofted into the Frankfurt box, before bobbling between Amoura, Wimmer and a couple of Frankfurt defenders. It eventually drops to Amoura, who shoots on the spin, but narrowly misses the far corner.
camera-photo

Wolfsburg playing better

The hosts have certainly been the better side since the break, and they would certainly be deserving of getting a goal back.
56'

Wimmer heads over

Another dangerous Eriksen delivery leads to a chance as Wimmer meets the cross right in front of the goal, but he can only head over under real pressure from Theate.
55'

Zehnter with the chance

Majer picks out a good run from Zehnter with a superb pass, but he gets his improvised effort all wrong and Frankfurt survive. A few moments earlier, Zetterer had to be alert to deal with an Eriksen corner that nearly found its way in at the near post.
52'

Too high

Mæhle bursts forward to the edge of the box before letting fly, but his effort is far too high.
49'

Off the bar!

Majer whips in a dipping free-kick from an awkward angle, and Zetterer has to spring backwards to tip the ball onto the bar. Great stop!
47'

Majer involved immediately

Eriksen works himself some space on the right and sends in a good cross that is met by Majer, but he can only flick his header over the bar from a good position.
46'

Back underway

The ball is moving for the second half as Wolfsburg make a change, with Majer replacing Lindström.

Half-time: Wolfsburg 0-2 Frankfurt

Frankfurt are deservedly ahead at the break, but Wolfsburg have had a couple of good chances themselves. Zetterer has twice provided Wolfsburg with the means to score, but both times, the hosts have made a mess of things. At the other end, Frankfurt have been much more clinical. Wolfsburg have a mountain to climb.

Added time

There is going to be just one extra minute before half-time.
40'

It should be 3-0!

Amaimouni-Echghouyab does brilliantly to get to the byline and fire in a cross to the wide-open Burkardt at the back post, but he gets it all wrong with the goal gaping, and Wolfsburg survive.

Another huge chance

And it is another big mistake from Zetterer. This time, the goalkeeper passes the ball to Wimmer on the edge of the box, but the Austrian looks to pass instead of shoot, and a Frankfurt defender recovers just in time to clear in front of Amoura.
36'

Frankfurt have the ball in the net again

But this one won't count. Burkardt holds the ball up for Højlund, who then spots Amaimouni-Echghouyab bursting through the middle. The winger just has Grabara to beat, and he finishes into the bottom corner with real composure, but he was offside when he received the pass.
camera-photo

Frankfurt are flying!

And it is far too easy for the visitors. A smart free-kick from Chaïbi sets Burkardt free in the box. His effort is saved initially by Grabara, but the ball falls for Kalimuendo right in front of goal, and he makes no mistake from a few yards out.

Wimmer almost gets space in the box, but is denied. The ball is then worked to Vavro on the edge of the box, and he has a go, although Zetterer has time to get across and make the save.

Frankfurt lead!

And what a lovely strike it is from Højlund. Frankfurt work the ball through midfield nicely before Burkardt feeds Amaimouni-Echghouyab on the right. He dips inside with a couple of stepovers before laying the ball off to Højlund on the edge of the box, who strikes a beautifully whipped shot into the far corner.

Nearly

A long kick forward by Zetterer nearly finds its way to Kalimuendo, but he can't quite get the ball under control, and the chance fails to materialise.
12'

And then at the other end

Højlund pokes the ball through to Kalimuendo in the box, but his effort towards the far post is beaten away by Grabara.
12'

What a chance!

Zetterer slips after taking a heavy touch and is charged down by Amoura. The ball bounces loose with the goal gaping, but Wimmer slips at the vital moment, and Zetterer recovers to collect the loose ball.

More on that Wolfsburg team

Dieter Hecking, meanwhile, is forced into three changes after having witnessed his side collapse against Leverkusen last time out. Kumbedi and Wind are out injured, whereas Koulierakis is suspended. The trio are replaced by Jenz, Zehnter, and Lindström, with the latter returning to face his former club.

It's two changes for Frankfurt, with one of them being forced. Dōan is ill and doesn't feature, and is replaced by Chaïbi. The other change is Amaimouni-Echghouyab for Knauff on the wing, with Knauff dropping to the bench.

Albert Riera on facing Wolfsburg

"We need to take advantage of the situation Wolfsburg are in, namely that they can't really go into a game with complete calm. They'll put us under pressure in the first 20-30 minutes and try to get the stadium behind them. We need to stop that, remain calm and force the game our way."
camera-photo

Dieter Hecking on facing Frankfurt

"I hope we get the win on Saturday because it would give us an important boost. We need to make sure we give ourselves an opportunity to close the gap on St. Pauli. Frankfurt have enormous quality up front, they have a lot of pace and they're very comfortable in possession, but they also showed against Cologne that they can be vulnerable."
camera-photo

Wolves in freefall

Wolfsburg are winless in 11 games in the second half of the season, claiming just three points in that period (Matchday 18-present). A 12th consecutive Bundesliga match without a win would equal the club's worst-ever run (over two seasons, in 1998).

End of the honeymon period?

Frankfurt dropped points at home for the first time under Albert Riera in the draw with Cologne. They're now winless in two for the first time since his appointment as head coach.
