After grafting for much of the afternoon, Leipzig snatch a late winner through their teenage sensation Diomande. It's no less than Die Roten Bullen deserved, having peppered the Gladbach goal throughout the 90, but it looked as though Nicolas would not be beaten until the Ivorian winger stepped up with a piece of individual brilliance. The Foals had a huge chance to equalise mere minutes after going behind, but it seemed that fortune favoured the brave this afternoon in Saxony.

Beyond the four allotted minutes, Gladbach have two corners. The first comes in from the left and is cleared as far as Bolin, whose volleyed effort is deflected behind for another set-piece. Diomande slips Baku through to the byline from where the right-back digs out a cutback to Rômulo. The Brazilian connects with the shot first time from close range, but Gladbach's keeper is there again to deny him, tipping the ball behind for a corner, upon which Leipzig don't manage to capitalise.

Gladbach turn defence into attack superbly. Elvedi lofts a ball over the Leipzig backline for Castrop to chase. There are calls for offside, but Raum had been playing him on. In the end, the South Korean international can only aim his finish straight at the onrushing Vandevoordt.

One to watch

The battle between Diomande and Ullrich will be one to keep a close eye on this afternoon. Leipzig's young Ivorian has started the game very brightly and is repeatedly looking to attack, but Ullrich has dealt with him well so far.

Whilst Leipzig will be looking to consolidate third place with a victory over Gladbach, Die Roten Bullen would be wise not to underestimate them. Not only are the Foals unbeaten in their last three, captain Rocco Reitz (pictured), who will be joining Leipzig in the summer, starts against his future employer. Another tight encounter in store?

Alassane Pléa's header in Gladbach's 1-0 victory over Leipzig on Matchday 27 last season is the only goal in the last three meetings between these sides, who also played out a goalless draw at the Red Bull Arena back in November 2024.
