Full-time: Frankfurt 2-2 Cologne

A crazy end to the game sees relegation-threatened Cologne pick up a vital point away from home. The game exploded into life in the 66th minute with Burkhart's opener, only for Kalimuendo to double their lead moments later. Cologne refused to lie down, however, as Kamiński and Castro-Montes hit back late in the second-half to seal draw. The visitors are now six points clear of the relegation zone, while Frankfurt remain in 7th place on 39 points.

Cologne are level!

What drama here, and what inspired substitutes from the new Cologne head coach! Lund crosses into the Frankfurt box from the left channel, finding Bülter at the back-post. He then cuts it back into the six-yard box, where Castro-Montes is waiting to nod the ball home. This would be a HUGE point for the visitors.

El Mala denied!

Maina pushes the ball into the path of El Mala inside the Cologne box. He collects it well, but his powerful shot from a few yards out is straight at Zetterer, and is easily saved by the German stopper.

Game simmers down again

After a frantic five-minute period, the match has slowed down into a familiar pattern. Frankfurt are back in possession, probing for a third goal as we enter the final 10 minutes of the match.

Kamiński hits right back!!

What on earth is going on?! Cologne have one back seconds after Kalimuendo's strike. Kamiński slaloms his way past several Frankfurt defenders and just about keeps his balance inside the box to stroke the ball past Zetterer with his left boot. Game on again!

Hosts double their lead!

It's two goals in two minutes! Amaimouni-Echghouyab can't quite bring the ball under his spell, but Kalimuendo is there to hammer the ball into the corner of the net from 10 metres out. It's a lovely finish from a player in top form.

Frankfurt take the lead!

Burkardt is back in the goals! It all starts with substitute Chaïbi, who drives past Özkacar and gets to the byline. He then cuts the ball back perfectly to Burkardt, who is able to roll the ball into an empty net from six yards. Wonderful work from Chaïbi

Thielmann squanders a great opening

Ache cleverly threads a through-ball to Thielmann deep inside the Frankfurt half. He tries to square the ball to El Mala who is unmarked at the edge of the penalty area, but it's easily read by Koch. At the other end of the pitch Amaimouni-Echghouyab's shot from range is easily held by Schwäbe.

Riera makes a double change

The Spaniard has opted to bring on Chaïbi and Amaimouni-Echghouyab 10 minutes into the second-half. Højlund and Knauff make way - with the latter playing on a yellow card.

Fairly even start to the half

Cologne are holding their own here, getting forward in numbers whenever the opportunity presents itself. While they still look a bit shaky at the back, the Rhinelanders are certainly a threat on the counter.
51'

Offside denies Cologne

The visitors hit right back with an attack of their own. Kamiński has another effort at goal from just outside the Frankfurt box, but after his shot drifts just wide of the post, the assistant referee raises his flag to signal an offside infringement.

Larsson fires over

A corner comes in from Højlund, which is headed down by Arthur Theate inside the Cologne six-yard box. The ball then drops to Larsson from close-range, who scoops his shot over the crossbar.

Half-time: Frankfurt 0-0 Cologne

Both teams have had good openings in front of goal, but we head into the break goalless at Deutsche Bank Park. Kalimuendo has been the biggest threat for the hosts, although he missed their biggest chance of the half after shooting straight at Schwäbe from a tight angle. Cologne's best opportunity to score came from a trademark counter-attack, where Zetterer was equal to Kamiński's close-range shot after a loose first touch. It's set up nicely heading into the second period, as both sides will fancy their chances of nicking this one.

Free kick blocked

Burkardt steps up to take a free kick from the edge of the Cologne box in a central position. Kamiński blocks the attempt well, denying Frankfurt a scoring opportunity right before the break.
39'

1v1 chance wasted!

That's a huge let-off for the home side. Out of nowhere, Cologne break away on a counter-attack through El Mala. The winger has Kamiński up with him, whom he passes the ball to for a 1v1 opportunity against Zetterer. However, the Cologne midfielder's touch lets him down, as it allows Zetterer to rush out and save his goal-bound shot. How costly could that prove to be?
35'

Schwäbe denies Kalimuendo!

Frankfurt are able to spring a quick counter after a spell of Cologne possession. Højlund plays Kalimuendo clean through on goal, but his shot from a tight angle is straight at Schwäbe, who got out well to deny him. Cologne are living dangerously here...

Frankfurt are dominating possession

The home side have had plenty of the ball in the first 30 minutes, but have thus far been unable to convert that into a goal.

El Mala from range!

The German Under-21 international picks up the ball just outside the Frankfurt box. He twists and turns away from the Frankfurt defenders before unleashing a fizzing effort that flashes just wide of Zetterer's right post.
camera-photo

Great save from Schwäbe!

Frankfurt are getting closer and closer to an opening goal. Larsson skillfully plays in Knauff down the right channel, who drives into the Cologne box with purpose. He tries to find the far corner of the net, but Schwäbe just about gets a fingertip on the ball, and turns it around the post. Burkardt, meanwhile, is inches away from turning it into the net at the back-post.
22'

Knauff booked

The Frankfurt man picks up an early yellow card after making a very rash tackle on Lund.
17'

Højlund's shot is blocked!

It all starts with that man Kalimuendo again. Thielmann is struggling up against the Frenchman, who this time is able to pick out Højlund inside the Cologne box with a low cross. His side-footed shot is well blocked, but the warning signs are mounting for the away side.
13'

Kamiński wasteful on the counter

The Polish winger has space to run into with several Frankfurt players caught out high up the pitch. However, Koch is there to expertly sweep up and nullify the danger.
9'

Dōan blazes over the bar

Kalimuendo is causing havoc down the left wing for the home side. He floats another cross into the Cologne box, which is partially punched away by Schwäbe. The ball then falls to Dōan, who balloons his shot over the crossbar. Play is then pulled back by the referee as Burkardt is adjudged to have fouled the goalkeeper.
5'

Lively start from Kalimuendo

The forward beautifully weaves his way past a couple of Cologne defenders to reach the byline. Once there, he drills a ball across the six-yard box, but van den Berg is there to intercept.
camera-photo

Early chance for Cologne

Kamiński cuts inside from the left channel and drives towards the Frankfurt box. He pulls the trigger from the edge of the area, and forces a decent save from Frankfurt stopper Zetterer, who can't cling onto the ball. Luckily for him, Ache is also unable to convert on the rebound.

Table talk

Frankfurt currently sit 7th in the Bundesliga table, one point ahead of Freiburg in 8th. Win today, and they could close the gap on 6th placed Leverkusen to eight points. Cologne, by contrast, are just five points above Wolfsburg, who are in the relegation zone alongside rock-bottom Heidenheim.

René Wagner on facing Frankfurt

"The lads have performed well in games, so we've tried to continue what we've been doing well and improve the two or three areas we'd like to change. They are only little things - it's not as though we need wholesale changes. We have a tight group, all the lads are there for each other."
camera-photo

Albert Riera on facing Cologne

"We'll try once more to surprise our opponents in new ways. They will not make things easy for us, so we have to create more space. We played with two strikers in the second half against Mainz, so that's an option for us. I have three different options in mind for our attack."

Kalimuendo on learning from Mbappé

Having come through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, 'Kali', as he is known to his teammates, rubbed shoulders with some big-name players in the French capital - and current Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé left a big impression: "He was an inspiration. Naturally, when you have the chance to be around that kind of player, you have to be capable of taking a step back and telling yourself that you have to analyse their every move. And what I retained a lot from Kylian is his finishing ability. In front of goal, for me he is the best in the world today. He's someone who is very rarely wrong in his decisions. Especially with his speed of execution too."

Kalimuendo: 'I'm a true number 9'

Speaking in an interview with the Bundesliga prior to Matchday 28, Arnaud Kalimuendo was asked about his playing style at Frankfurt: "I think I'm a true number 9. I think I'm a number 9 in my style. I try to be as complete as possible. I know that I still have a lot of things to smooth out, a lot of things to work on, because I'm still far from where I want to be. I always try to think about the team, whether offensively or defensively."
