Full-time: St. Pauli 0-0 Eintracht Frankfurt

In the end, the teams have to settle for a share of the spoils, and it's probably a fair result overall. Pauli had the better of the chances in the first half, striking the post twice, but the Eagles looked the more assured team in the second period. Given their respective targets for this season, both sides may, in the cold light of day, consider this a point gained.

Eintracht look more likely...

...to score right now. They're moving the ball from left to right, trying to find a way through. Pauli appear to have settled for the point.

Now Pauli get some set pieces to work with, but they can't make much of them, unfortunately.

A bit of a wild challenge by substitute Dōan sees him cautioned by the ref.

Corner for Frankfurt

Dōan's in-swinging corner is well cleared by the Pauli defence. The hosts appear to be sitting back a bit more now.

Sinani tests Zetterer

Sinani battles his way through to give himself a shooting chance, but Zetterer gets down well to hold his attempt.

Chaïbi shoots over

Chaïbi's free-kick goes flying over the bar. Not his best effort.
64'

Andō walking a tightrope

Having just been booked, Andō then goes in late on Chaïbi. While no second yellow is shown, he'll need to be very careful now.
60'

Bahoya goes close again

Chaïbi finds Höjlund, who lays it off to Bahoya. The Eagles forward shoots, but Smith gets across to block it.

Higher xG for the home side

info-small
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
As we hit the hour mark, Pauli still have the better xG, despite Eintracht looking more proficient in this second period.

Crowd doing their bit

The home faithful have been chanting non-stop for several minutes now, urging on their side.
55'

Better from Eintracht

Possibly with Albert Riera's words ringing in their ears, Eintracht have looked the better team in the opening 10 mins of this second half.
48'

Saliakias forced off

Saliakas has to go off with an injury, and he's visibly upset. That's a real shame for the Greek, who had worked hard to get back in the starting XI.

Big chance!

Almost straight from kick-off, Eintracht spurn their best chance of the match. Bahoya bears down on goal and tries to curl the ball in the right corner, but Vasilj makes the save!

Back at it

The Kiezkicker get the second half going. Can they conjure up a goal that will massively help their fight against relegation?

Half-time

Half-time: St. Pauli 0-0 Eintracht Frankfurt

The whistle goes, and it's all square at the break. While Eintracht have enjoyed more possession, Pauli have created the better chances, hitting the post twice through Pereira Lage and Sinani. The home side seem pretty motivated to get a result here today, which will doubtless make for a fascinating second half.

+ 1

Pauli pushing

The home team would clearly love a goal before the half-time whistle, as they're pushing hard right now, particularly through Andō.
45'

Four mins of added time

Due to that earlier delay, we're going to have an extra four minutes in Hamburg.
camera-photo

Unusual substitution

The far-side assistant is unable to continue due to an injury issue, and he's replaced by the fourth official. Not something you see every day! We're likely to have a few added minutes due to that delay.
40'

On-song Saliakis

Saliakis, who's put in some fine performances for St. Pauli in recent matches, has looked lively again during this first half.
camera-photo

Ten to go

There are about ten minutes to go till the break, and it's been a tense but entertaining affair so far. It feels like the kind of game where the first goal could be crucial.
34'

Fujita drives forward

Fujita skips past a couple of Eintracht challenges on the right flank, much to the delight of the home crowd. Pauli have looked threatening on both wings in this first half.
31'

Post again!

Sinani plays a one-two with Pereira Lage before seeing his effort crash against the right-hand post - the second time that the home side have hit the woodwork in this first half.
30'

Pauli on top

Pauli have had some sustained pressure over the past five minutes or so, and that's really got the crowd going. They can sense there's something brewing.

Another nice counter

Pauli break again at pace, and only a very alert interception by Amenda prevents a goalscoring chance in the middle. The ensuing corner comes to nothing.

Halfway point

We're about halfway through the first half, and it's been tense so far at the Millerntor. Both teams look dangerous when they surge forward.

Good couple of mins for Pauli

St. Pauli have definitely found their feet, and are starting to put some pressure on. Lage challenges Zetterer and gets there ahead of him with a strong header, but it's well wide.

Latest standings

Freiburg's 3-3 draw with Bayer Leverkusen means Frankfurt can open up a three-point cushion in seventh with a win today, with European qualification once again the goal for the Eagles. Survival, meanwhile, is all that matters for Pauli, who begin the day three points outside the automatic drop zone after defeats for Heidenheim and Wolfsburg yesterday. There's only one point between the Kiezkicker and Werder Bremen, who occupy the relegation play-off berth ahead of their trip to Union Berlin later in the day, but a win here would lift them up to 12th.

More on those teams

Riera makes two changes to the team that beat Freiburg. Michael Zetterer replaces injured goalkeeper Kauã Santos, while midfielder Farès Chaïbi starts at the expense of Mario Götze after impressing from the bench last time out. As for Pauli, there's just one enforced change after last weekend's surprise win at Hoffenheim. Defender Tomoya Andō comes in for Karol Mets, who has a calf problem.

Alexander Blessin on facing Frankfurt

"They put a lot of emphasis on possession and counter-pressing, as we've seen in recent weeks, but we can let them play in the areas where they can't hurt us. Positionally, they’re very flexible under Riera. It’ll be interesting to see how we deal with that. He has certain principles that are clearly recognisable, but some players also have the freedom to play. We need to cover the gaps because they have a lot of individual quality and pace."
camera-photo

Albert Riera on facing St. Pauli

"I said to them at the beginning of the week that we need to play every game with the same energy and passion. That’s what I expect. There are three points up for grabs in every match. St. Pauli are below us in the table but that doesn’t matter. Regardless of whether we’re playing Bayern or St. Pauli, whether there are 70,000 in the crowd or the type of atmosphere you get in St. Pauli, there’s no difference to me between these two away games."

camera-photo

Difficult task

In the three meetings between these two since Pauli's promotion to the Bundesliga, Frankfurt have won two of them, with the other game ending 2-2. Historically, Pauli have beaten the Eagles just five times from 23 encounters.
camera-photo

Irvine importance

The captain has struggled with injury this season, and his absence has highlighted just how crucial he is to Pauli's fortunes. Of the nine games the Australian has started, Pauli have 14 points, compared to just nine from the other 15.
camera-photo

Frankfurt to dominate the ball?

Since Riera's arrival, the Eagles have had plenty of the ball: 60 percent possession in the win over Freiburg, 70 in the draw at Union Berlin, and even 49 against Bayern, who usually average 61 percent. Pauli, meanwhile, have the second-lowest average in the league with 43 percent.
camera-photo

Frankfurt must improve on the road

The Eagles have won just three of their 12 Bundesliga away games this season, which has contributed heavily to them dropping off the pace in the race for the top four. Albert Riera, meanwhile, is waiting for his first win on the road in charge of Eintracht.
camera-photo

Considerable improvement

Having won just one of their previous 17 matches, Pauli have now triumphed in three of their past four. During that period, only Bayern have picked up more points.
camera-photo

A bit of history for Pauli?

The Kiezkicker have won their past two Bundesliga games to boost their chances of staying amongst the elite. The last time they won three in a row in the top flight came 15 years ago.
