Watch: Stage on 'disappointing' result for Bremen

camera-photo

Full-time: Bremen 3-3 Frankfurt

What a game! It swung one way and then the other, but in the end, Knauff has saved his side at the death. It's a result that leaves both sides rather unsatisfied. The Bremen players and particularly Stage look absolutely devastated, having fought back twice.
Full-time
camera-photo

Sensational!

Knauff has equalised right at the death. Amaimouni-Echghouyab gets to the byline and pulls back a cross that Knauff sweeps home. The goal is initially ruled out as the officials thought the ball had gone out of play, but after a review, the goal stands.

A quickfire double

Mbangula plays a lovely ball through to Schmid. He's through on goal, but under pressure. However, he stays superbly calm, spins the goalkeeper and finds Milošević, who tucks home with the goalkeeper stranded.

Stage levels it up

Dōan picks up a yellow for a foul on Mbangula. The youngster then whips in a great delivery that is met by an even better header from Stage. Bremen are deservedly level.

Chaïbi squanders a big chance

Kalimuendo holds up the ball well and finds Uzun. He slips the ball through to Chaïbi. He's one-on-one with Backhaus, but he scuffs the chance wide.

Wasted opportunities

Bremen have had so many shots in this game, but they just aren't hitting the target frequently enough.

Huge opportunity

Stage slots a ball in behind that Theate reads completely wrong. That gives Njinmah a huge opportunity one-on-one, but he slices his effort wide with his left.

Out of nowhere!

Collins has given Frankfurt the lead! Collins pounces on a loose pass to Schmidt before Kalimuendo and Chaïbi battle for possession. The latter then loops an optimistic ball over the defence and into the box, and Collins does superbly to meet the ball first and turn his shot home.

Lovely football

Schmidt, Stage and Grüll all exchange passes as the hosts move the ball forward quickly. Theate is there to intervene just before Schmidt can shoot. The ball then ends up with Stage, but his volley is wild.
52'

Kristensen can't continue

The Dane has done his best to battle on, but his nose just won't stop bleeding, and now Knauff is on to replace him.
51'

Chances at both ends

Dōan gets into the box, but his shot is charged down and saved by Backhaus. At the other end, Njinmah tries to volley a cross goalwards with his left and can't connect cleanly.
47'

A wasted chance

Bremen break and Schmidt feeds Stage on the left. He has space to shoot with his left, but decides to cut back on his right, and his shot is blocked. Lynen has a follow-up shot, and Santos makes a simple save.

Back underway

Frankfurt get the ball moving again.
Kick-off!
camera-photo

Half-time: Bremen 1-1 Frankfurt

All square at the break. Frankfurt took the lead in the first minute through a stunning looping finish from Kalimuendo, but since then, it has been nearly all Bremen. Eventually, that pressure paid off as Njinmah got on the end of a lovely pass from Sugawara and finished past Santos. The Japanese full-back has had a lot of space on the right, and the Bremen players will perhaps be disappointed not to have made more of some good crosses. Still all to play for at the break.

Schmidt just misses the target

A Bremen set-piece is cleared as fast as Schmidt. He doesn't have much time on the ball, but he controls it quickly enough to toe-poke a shot goalwards that dribbles wide of the target.

Wild

Stage has space on the edge of the box and lets fly, but he gets the shot all wrong and misses by a sizeable distance.

Another dangerous Sugawara cross

Yet again, the Japanese international has acres of space on the right, and he sends in another cross that Koch is forced to turn behind for a corner. And again, Schmid's delivery is poor from the set-piece.
38'

Sugawara causing problems

The Bremen defender is getting far too much space on the right. His latest cross has to be turned behind by a retreating Kristensen. Again, the corner isn't a threat.
37'

Coulibaly getting involved in the attack

The young centre-back has taken the opportunity to get forward from his position on the left of the back three a couple of times now. His latest marauding run forward leads to Bremen winning a corner. The set-piece comes to nothing.
33'

Flags up

Sugawara is in space again, and this time he whips in a good cross from the right that Njinmah tries to flick goalwards. He misses the target, but the flag was up against the forward anyway.
31'

Bremen trying to keep up their momentum

Theate is forced into a dangerous clearance by a good cross from the right before Njinmah tries to hook a cross towards goal, but his effort is blocked and Frankfurt eventually clear.

Njinmah levels it up

Sugawara has a bit of space on halfway and he finds Njinmah with a stunning through ball. The forward holds off the challenge of Collins before firing into the bottom left corner. It wasn't a clean strike, but it was well-placed, and Bremen desperately needed that after their recent goalscoring troubles.

Good chance

A well-whipped Dōan corner from the right is met by the unmarked Skhiri. He's not under much pressure, but his header is off target from a good position.
20'

Njinmah comes close

Stage plays a delightful through ball to Njinmah with the outside of his boot that opens up the Frankfurt defence. The Bremen winger gets to the edge of the box before shooting whilst under pressure, but his effort rolls just wide.
18'

Grüll sends in an early cross, but Santos does well to gather.

Kristensen still waiting to get back on

The Dane is still receiving treatment to try to stop his nose from bleeding. In the meantime, he seems to be having fun with the fans who are rather lightheartedly questioning the legitimacy of his injury.
13'

The corner comes to nothing

After a long delay, Schmid sends in the corner towards Pieper, but Frankfurt manage to clear.
12'

More injury worries

Kristensen is still receiving treatment off the pitch, and now Santos is down in the box holding his ankle. Lots of early stoppages.
10'

Better

Schmid is fed in down the right and attempts to send in a low cross, but Koch does well to get across to stop the pass from reaching Njinmah.
9'

Kristensen needing treatment

The Frankfurt full-back makes a good challenge on Schmidt, but catches a boot in the face in the process. The game is stopped whilst the Dane gets patched up.
8'

Kalimuendo and Frankfurt looking lively

The visitors have started this game very well. They are pressing high and moving the ball very nicely. Kalimuendo has been at the heart of everything so far.

1-0 Frankfurt already!

Bremen get the game started, but find themselves 1-0 down inside one minute. Dōan whips in a nice cross from the right that is nodded back across goal by Brown. Kalimuendo battles in to meet the ball on the half volley and improvises a delightful finish that loops over Backhaus. What a start!

Bremen are unchanged from their 3-0 defeat at Dortmund in midweek. Meanwhile, Dino Toppmöller makes four changes from the side that narrowly lost at Stuttgart as Frankfurt revert to a back five. Brown, Chaïbi, Dahoud and Collins all come into the starting XI. Uzun is back on the bench, whereas Zetterer is only on the bench against his former club.

Dino Toppmöller also has several absentees to contend with. He is without three of his strikers in Jonathan Burkardt, Younes Ebnoutalib and Michy Batshuayi, while Mario Götze, Hugo Larsson, Elias Baum and Timothy Chandler join them on the sidelines. Nevertheless, Can Uzun and Nathaniel Brown are again available after missing the game against Stuttgart in midweek.

Early Bremen team news

Horst Steffen will be without Wesley Adeh, Felix Agu, Victor Boniface - who is out for the rest of the season following a knee operation - Niklas Stark, Mitchell Weiser and Maximilian Wöber for this one. Mio Backhaus, though, is once again available after recovering from a head injury.

Frankfurt also out of form

Eintracht have just one win in their past eight competitive matches - and the 36 Bundesliga goals they have conceded is 12 more they let in during the first half of last season.
