Man of the Match: Alexander Prass

Prass delivered a fantastic, high energy performance and even got on the scoresheet, with his sensational goal setting his side on their way to victory.

Full-time: Werder Bremen 0-2 Hoffenheim

Hoffenheim make it four wins in a row and take another step toward their Champions League dream, while Bremen fail to win once more. The hosts offered very little going forward, aside from their disallowed goal, and failed to capitalise on their man advantage after Burger's sending off, instead conceding a second almost immediately.

Ten added minutes

Due to the earlier VAR checks, for Burger's sending off and Prömel's goal, as well as Schmid's offside goal, there will be a significant amount of additional time here in Bremen.

Topp fires over

A lofted pass finds him to the left of the area, where he goes for the volley first time. His effort goes well over from close range.

Lynen from range

A corner is played out to him and he tries his luck from distance. He strikes it cleanly, but a white shirt heads it out for another corner, which doesn't come to anything.

Chance!

Stage finds space to the right of the box and has a clear sight of goal, but gets his finish all wrong and sees it sail high and wide.

Comfortable

A clipped cross to the back post from Grüll finds Stage but he can't generate any power on his header and Baumann collects.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Topp and Čović enter the action, with Bremen in need of an attacking spark.

Whirlwind start

After seeing Burger be dismissed early on, Werder may have fancied their chances of a comeback. However, just moments later they find themselves two goals down, with the hosts arguing that Prömel fouled Malatini in the build up to his goal.

Prömel doubles Hoffenheim's lead!

A Coufal cross bounces the way of Prömel, who nudges Malatini out of the way before firing home from close range, and 10-man Hoffenheim double their lead just moments after losing a man.

Half-time: Werder Bremen 0-1 Hoffenheim

A moment of magic separates these two at the break, with the game lacking in excitement until Prass' stunning strike at the end of the half. Werder can feel hard done by, with a draw arguably a fair result at the break. The hosts will have to gather themselves ahead of the second 45 if they're to end their winless run now.

There it is, Prass gets the opener!

And what a goal it is! Burger plays it into Kramarić on the edge of the area, who then lays it off to Prass who is in a central position. He thumps it first time, and sees the ball rocket into the top corner.

The Weserstadion is ready!

Steffen surprise on the cards?

Horst Steffen has never managed a game against Hoffenheim, well, their first team at least. He faced their reserve side six times as manager of Elversberg, winning five of those encounters and losing just once.
camera-photo

Lone ranger

Leonardo Bittencourt is the only player from either side to have played for both teams. He made 27 appearances in all competitions for Hoffenheim before heading north to Bremen in 2019, where he has since played 180 times for the Green-Whites.
camera-photo

Horst Steffen on facing Hoffenheim

“Hoffenheim are really impressive in terms of the way they play. They press really proactively and retain the ball really well. They run a lot, and they play with a real intensity. We’ve got a tough challenge ahead of us, that’s for sure. I’m optimistic that despite the absences we’re dealing with, we can put out a strong team that can hurt Hoffenheim.”
camera-photo

Christian Ilzer on facing Bremen

“We know the statistics and that they haven’t won in a long time. But there have been many close games. Against Frankfurt, they were close, and even in Leverkusen, they were statistically the better team. Bremen can hurt us, and we will be prepared for that. It will be a new, big challenge.”
camera-photo

Bremen looking to end poor run

Since their return to the Bundesliga in 2022, Bremen have only failed to pick up points at home against Bayern and Hoffenheim. Meanwhile, another victory for Hoffenheim at the Weserstadion would see them win a fourth consecutive game against the same team away from home for only the third time after Cologne and Augsburg.

Close to Bundesliga best for Hoffenheim

This is Hoffenheim's second-best points return after 19 matchdays of a Bundesliga season - their best came in their maiden top-flight campaign in 2008/09. Also, they have only once conceded fewer than this season's 22 goals at this point of a term (in 2016/17).

Record start to 2026

For the first time in the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim have started a calendar year by winning their first three games. The 3-1 victory over Frankfurt at the weekend followed on from 5-1 and 1-0 wins over Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.
camera-photo

Early Hoffenheim team news

Tim Lemperle missed the victory over Eintracht Frankfurt due to illness, and it remains unclear as to whether he will have recovered to feature here. Adam Hložek, Cole Campbell and Kiko Machida, meanwhile, are all absentees for this one.
camera-photo

Early Bremen team news

Horst Steffen has something of a defensive crisis on his hands. Maximilian Wöber, Niklas Stark, Felix Agu and Mitchell Weiser are all still unavailable, while Isaac Schmidt suffered a head injury at the weekend against Bayer Leverkusen and is therefore unavailable here. On top of that, Amos Pieper was forced off early on and is a doubt, with Marco Friedl suspended after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season. In good news for the Werderaner, Samuel Mbangula could be back in contention to feature after missing the last game due to personal reasons.
camera-photo

Hoffenheim's high hopes

A win would take Hoffenheim to just three points behind Borussia Dortmund, with Christian Ilzer's men having lost only four times this season. Only one of those losses have come away from home, too.

Werder's worries

The hosts are now winless in eight and sit just three points above Mainz in the relegation play-off place. They've score just 21 goals this season, the third lowest tally in the league, and drew another blank in their loss to Bayer Leverkusen last time out - their fourth game without finding the back of the net in the last five.
