Full time: Union 3-1 Leipzig

Union collect their fifth Bundesliga win of the season to pull further clear of the relegation zone. A scrappy game caught fire in the second half, with three of the four goals arriving in a seven-minute spell. Ultimately, Leipzig lacked the cutting edge to break down Union's dogged rearguard, while the hosts were more efficient in front of goal.

After Union clear a Leipzig corner, the hosts pour forward down the right through Skarke. Much like Schäfer moments earlier, he sprints into the box but can only drill a low shot from an acute angle at Gulácsi.

What is going on?!

Three goals in seven minutes! Trimmel is afforded way too much space wide on the right. He delivers an inviting cross into the box and finds Ansah, who ghosts past Nedeljkovic and heads in from the edge of the six-yard box.

Union lead!

The home side's high press wins them the ball back high up the pitch and from there the ball is quicky moved from left to right. Jeong slides a first-time pass into the path of Burke, who cuts inside Lukeba and curls a left-footed shot high into the net. A fine finish!

Half-time: Union 0-0 Leipzig

It's been a hard-fought game so far, with a couple of brief openings at either end. Jeong had the best chance for the home side early on, with Haberer also going close at the end of the half. Diomande has been Leipzig's man danger man, and Rønnow has made a couple of decent stops for the hosts.

Haberer!

Ansah's cross from the left goes all the way through to the back post. Haberer seemingly wasn't expecting it though, and contorts his body between a header and a volley - and ends up bundling the ball just wide with his knee. That could have been the opener!

Kemlein half chance

Leipzig struggle to clear a high, looping free-kick into their penalty area. It's only cleared as far as the edge of the area, where Kemlein is arriving. He strikes the ball first time with his left foot, but it flies just wide of the upright,

Jeong has a go!

The best chance of the half so far as Jeong gets to the ball just before Orbán and suddenly has space to attack. He has options to his left but instead opts to shoot. It looks like a rushed decision as slices way off target - he could have advanced a lot closer to goal there.
6'

Space for Burke!

The forward receives the ball in plenty of space towards the right side of the penalty area. He could pass or try to shoot with his left foot, but instead tries to take on a defender on the outside, but runs out of space and it goes out for a goal kick.
5'

One-touch football

Leipzig are trying to get through Union's compact defence with some swift one-touch play around the edge of their penalty area. It hasn't worked out just yet, but they've strung some nice moves together and if they keep at it, you suspect they'll get through sooner or later.
3'

Fast start

Anyone expecting Union to just sit back and wait for openings on the counter or from set pieces is well wide of the mark here. Both teams are going on the front foot whenever they can. It's been frenetic and end-to-end already, albeit without any sights of goal.

Early Leipzig team news

The visitors have more injury issues to contend with. Ridle Baku, Benjamin Henrichs, Kevin Kampl, Antonio Nusa and Assan Ouédraogo are among those unavailable, while their are doubts over El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Rômulo and Timo Werner. Johan Bakayoko, though, is once again at Werner's disposal.

Early Union team news

Robert Skov remains out of action, but apart from that, Steffen Baumgart has a full squad to choose from. They will certainly need to be at their best to get something out of this one.

Steffen Baumgart on facing Leipzig

"We have many strengths that we need to bring to the table and for which we want to be rewarded in the end, instead of just being praised for a good performance. Whether that will succeed remains to be seen. Leipzig are a young, strong team with many individuals who can decide games on their own. Nevertheless: We want to beat every opponent. And tomorrow we will do everything we can to leave the pitch as winners against a team like Leipzig.”
camera-photo

Ole Werner on facing Union

"Union definitely have a different style of play to our last opponent, you don't see this kind too often in the Bundesliga, maybe Mainz would be a good comparison. They know what they want to do, they do it well, and are committed - especially when they're playing at home. If you take a look at their game against Bayern, you can see how they make every game an uncomfortable experience for the opponent, and they're more than capable of hurting anyone."
