Wolves profit from Wind power

It's two wins from their opening two games for Wolfsburg as Niko Kovac's men produced a come-from-behind win at the RheinEnergieStadion. Jonas Wind scored a brace in last weekend's victory against Heidenheim and the Dane was on point with another double to cancel out a classy second-half opener from Wolfsburg loanee Luca Waldschmidt.

Waldschmidt ripper

He's on loan from Wolfsburg and he's only gone and scored a belter against his parent club! Luca Waldschmidt cracks one into the corner from distance and then throws his hands up in the air in the non-celebratory fashion.

Cologne team news

On loan at Cologne from Wolfsburg, Luca Waldschmidt will look to menace against his old side. Another loanee, Rasmus Carstensen from Genk, is expected to make his second successive start for the Billy Goats while Dejan Ljubicic and Davie Selke should feature again having both recently recovered from respective knocks.

Wolfsburg team news

Wolfsburg threw four of their new summer signings straight into the mix last weekend and having all performed admirably against Heidenheim, Cedric Zesiger, Joakim Maehle, Lovro Majer and Vaclav Cerny are expected to go again against Cologne. Maxi Arnold could return from illness but there's no place for the injured Kilian Fischer or Lukas Nmecha. Recent arrival Rogerio is suspended.

Watch: Dortmund 1-0 Cologne

The visitors were bitterly disappointed to leave the Signal Iduna Park with nothing after conceding in the final throes against Dortmund on Matchday 1.

Hoping for home revival

Cologne will hope to start afresh in terms of consigning a worrying home trend last season to the past. Steffen Baumgart's side only won one of their last seven games at the RheinEnergieStadion in 2022/23.

Jonas Wind's fourth Bundesliga double put paid to last season's second-tier champions Heidenheim as Wolfsburg opened with a victory last weekend.

Last time out

Cologne were oh so close to winning an admirable point at Borussia Dortmund last weekend. Donyell Malen's 88th minute winner for BVB mean the Billy-Goats will be keen to bounce back against the visiting Wolves this week. For their part, Nico Kovac's charges were buoyed by an opening-day triumph at home to Heidenheim on Matchday 1.
