Wolfsburg bring in goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther
Wolfsburg have completed the signing of goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther from Feyenoord, with the 30-year-old putting pen to paper on a contract running until 30 June 2029.
Wellenreuther returns to German football after nine years in the Netherlands and Belgium with Feyenoord, Willem II and Anderlecht. The 30-year-old came through at Karlsruhe before getting his first taste of senior football as a teenager at Schalke, making 10 competitive appearances during the second half of the 2014/15 season.
"By signing Timon, we've brought in a goalkeeper who has proven his quality at the highest level of European football over the past few years," said Wolfsburg sporting director Pirmin Schwegler.
"He's played in the [UEFA] Champions League and the [UEFA] Europa League, won several titles with Feyenoord and most recently also took on responsibility as captain. That shows he can make an impact on a team not only through his performances, but also through his personality. We're delighted that we were able to convince Timon to join us on our journey."
Wellenreuther, who also spent time on loan in Spain's second division with Mallorca, made 125 appearances across a four-season spell at Feyenoord. He won the 2022/23 Eredivisie title, as well as the 2023/24 Dutch Cup and 2025 Super Cup with the Rotterdam club, but is now relishing the challenge of helping Wolfsburg gain promotion back to the Bundesliga following their relegation via the 2025/26 play-off.
"My conversations with those in charge convinced me and showed me the direction VfL want to take and the role they have in mind for me," the German explained.
"Returning to German professional football is a special step for me. I'm someone who enjoys challenges and likes to get stuck in. I want to use my experience, prove myself in training every day and help the team achieve success."
Wolfsburg are embarking on their first season in Germany's second tier since their maiden promotion to the top flight in 1997. The Wolves begin the 2026/27 Bundesliga 2 campaign at home to Kaiserslautern on 8 August.
