Miron Muslić extends Schalke contract following promotion to the Bundesliga
Miron Muslić has signed a new deal to remain Schalke head coach until 2028, with the announcement made immediately after he helped guide the club to promotion to the Bundesliga in his first season in charge.
Muslić joined Schalke in summer 2025 from Plymouth Argyle in England, hoping to be the man to inspire the club back to the top flight for the first time since their relegation in 2022/23.
After delivering on that objective with a 1-0 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf on Matchday 32, it was announced on the giant screen at the Veltins-Arena during the promotion celebrations that Muslić had extended his deal to 2028.
The 43-year-old Austrian-Bosnian dual citizen has won 20 of his first 32 league matches in charge of Schalke, averaging 2.09 points per game. The way he tightened Schalke's defence has been particularly notable, with the side conceding just 28 goals in 32 matches, the lowest in Bundesliga 2.
"We always believed we could achieve something special if the lads pushed beyond their limits," Muslić said after the 1-0 victory. "They have done that brilliantly – it’s been an outstanding season so far."

He added: "We made some hugely important decisions in the summer and again in the winter. With the togetherness we have and the right mix of quality and character, everything came together in the end. Now I’m going to celebrate with my family and friends."
Schalke are on course to take the Bundesliga 2 title too, with fixtures away at Nuremberg and at home to Eintracht Braunschweig before Muslić and his players can plan for their return to the Bundesliga in 2026/27.
