Eintracht Braunschweig dismiss head coach Heiner Backhaus
Eintracht Braunschweig have parted ways with head coach Heiner Backhaus, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Backhaus departs with Braunschweig outside the relegation zone on goal difference following a five-match winless run.
The 44-year-old oversaw seven wins in 25 Bundesliga 2 games (D5, L13) after being appointed last summer.
"We did not make this decision based on a single game, but because of the team's recent lack of development. We decided that we cannot achieve our goals under the current set-up," explained Braunschweig sporting director Benjamin Kessel.
"Heiner and [assistant coach] Julius [Schell] have dedicated themselves to Eintracht Braunschweig with great passion and commitment. We're very grateful for that, and wish them both every success in their future endeavours."
Braunschweig are next in action at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf on 14 March. The Lions are one of seven teams separated by four points at the foot of the table, with nine games of the regular Bundesliga 2 season remaining.
